Shirley, I am so terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. You and your family are in my prayers. Melinda, Fran, and Sassy, thanks for catching those woopsies. I've done it a few times in my recipes too. Dianne, your daylily is beautiful and the Riverwalk is so peaceful looking. How lucky you are to have that near you! Hey FOAS, Jessie wins. I was making a list (*on the paper table cloth at the Watershed Restaurant) of CF members whom I have met; I think I'm at 33 meetings. Ironically Jessie was my first many years ago! *I mention this because someone in our party thought I was writing on a real cloth.

A great big WELCOME from the hot & humid Central Gulf Coast of Florida! I'm a married 65 year old retired gal-lived all but the last 12 years in northeast PA. I was in the hotel business & also owned a restaurant and did Bridal consulting & wedding cakes for 35 years.have worn an apron most of my life! Once I hung it up I was news director & airstaff on our local radio station and sales in newspaper & telecom before retiring down here. I have 3 married children, (WI, NC & PA) 3 grandsons and my 1 & only 6 yr old grandaughter-a clone of myself! (oh dear!) I keep myself busy doing home dec projects, love crossword puzzles & dancing is my favorite pastime at the places down at the beach & baking cookies, for my friends & neighbors. My favs in music are the Doobies, Eagles, BTO, Tony Bennett, Babs Streisand and Elvis, of course. Love to 'rock & roll'. Again-welcome to our family!

Snidely, I didn't say I wouldn't provide. I have done, and will in the future. I said it was rude to ask IF it makes a distraction for the hosts, because it makes them disappear into the kitchen just when they want to be saying their final words to the guests. The considerate guest considers the inconvenience before making a request. And if he has such a long ride that he will be consumed by thirst on the journey, he should keep supplies in the car. If he's going to be considerate. Re leftovers, it has been said repeatedly. The hostess makes enough so that everyone will have an ample and filling dinner, but knows not everyone will eat so much, so she can count on not cooking the following day. She'll gladly give that up to make sure everyone at the table is pleasantly full, but the guests should not ask her to give up her day off of cooking so that they themselves can have a second day off. And it's okay for her to let them know, nicely, what her plan is. In the situation FOAS posited, the considerate guest can say, "I have enough, but if you're trying to get rid of it, I'd be happy to take some home." That makes it easy for the hostess to say either, "Thank goodness! I thought I'd be staring at that for a week!" or "That's okay. I'm going to feed it to the family after church if there's any left."
