If there is a Wiers near you, check them out.

Looked at Wiers advertisement last weekend and didn't see brands that I thought would be extra high in quality. Do you suggest some of the brands they carry?

We bought a sofa and a recliner from Weir's less than 3 years ago. The sofa's back cushion is already teared off about 1/2 feet. The edge of the cushion already fade out. As for the recliner, the cushion is no longer in the good shape, it flushed down 1/3 of its original size. I do not expect the items to be in perfect shape after 3 years but I would expect they are in decent shape. Needless to say, the quality is not there.

I couldn't speak for their wooden product but definitely would not get leather items from them.

We are also in the market for another set of sofa, hopefully someone can point us to the right place in Dallas. I'm also thinking about ordering H&M from Boyles.

Weir's things are mostly average to below average at best. Robb and Stucky in Plano has very nice, well built furniture lines with prices to match. We've gotten some things there which we use in heavy use areas, so we felt the cost was justified. Gabbert's has some good and some not so good lines, but some of their items are very nice. There are a bunch of furniture stores on Alpha Road near the Galleria which they call the North Dallas Design District, so if you can get over there, you'll have a lot to look at: Danish Inspirations, Roche Boubois (sp), Gabberts, Cantoni and others with some good stuff.

I live in Dallas area and shopping for furniture too. Today we went to Goodfellows and to look at Hancock & Moore but found some Motioncraft by Sherrill that we really liked. Went to Weirs after that. I think the thing with Weirs is that they have a range of lines. They had a few Hancock and Moore pieces. Will be trying the others stores mes444 suggested. I think I heard Gabberts is going out of business.

Would love to hear what you have found.

Got to Dallas last Wed. before flying out for Thanksgiving. Ended up in the North Dallas Design District for a bit. We had a good time looking in some of the stores. Many seemed to be very trendy, and more for an upscale downtown loft than a country ranch, which is what we have. We then happened upon Gabberts. (If they are going out of business there were no indicators) They had a few recliners that we found, but none were the big plush comfy kind my wife seems set on. They were the only motion furniture that we saw. She did like a Century leather group that was not motion, but it was a bit more expensive than what we had hoped to have to spend. They closed early so we were only in the store about 20 minutes. The sales people left us alone, which was better than some of the other places, but when we did find the Century group we would have liked to ask some questions, but didn't get a chance.

We did like a motioncraft leather love seat that we saw in Tyler, TX a few weeks ago, but that was the only piece they had. I think it was a special order, but turned back for some reason. Could have been the squeeky sounds you heard when you sat in the left hand recliner?

I would like to be able to see more of what Motioncraft offers, but have not been able to find a link on the Net or even another furniture store in the area that deals in it.

Gabberts is closing the Dallas and the Ft Worth locations so you may get a good deal on in stock merchandise but not special order items typically. If you liked the Century piece go for it - over the long term it will hold up better than most and long out live the motioncraft piece. It is comparing apples and oranges to compare Century and Motioncraft.
