Sofa leather vs fabric (both high-end)
Comments (3)What about a microfiber? We have a family of 9 with seven children and we put hard usage on our furniture. I'm hoping that with the youngest being 8, we can now put the This End Up (most uncomfortable furniture!) in the basement and get some comfy pieces for our family room. I found a Bradington and Young leather sectional floor sample for $3k at a lovely furniture store in downtown Baltimore - Shofer's. The salesperson is wonderful. Since it's all high end or almost high end, the prices are the same. If I had an unlimited budget, I'd get the Austin high back sectional, but reality is the $3k is more our budget. I'm concerned about the leather comfort - we lie on our sofas to watch movies or snuggle up with a good book. I'm thinking microfiber is best for durability/cleanability and comfort. But...is it still a 1 in your 4:1 ratio? Thanks! Hope you are open tomorrow. I want to visit your store! Oh, I should also say that we really like the Lee Industries deep seat sectional, but that comes in at $4300, but does have at least one extra seat than the Bradington & Young leather sectional. So confused here!...See MoreProblem with New Microfiber Sofa, need advice
Comments (13)Saphire I bought a Precedent Microfiber sofa from Marshall Field's about 2 years ago. My sister has a Precedent sofa that I love and the fact that it's a divison of Sherrill I figured I could not go wrong. The sofa arrived on a Thursday, I had a party on Sunday. After the party the sofa felt like it was a few years old vs. a few days. It was very cushy. Not what I expected. Then I noticed it started to eat things; my hair, lint, you name it. I figured since it was my 3rd sofa I was stuck with it. About 8 months later I started looking at rugs and club chairs. I mentioned to my new sales associate that my sofa was eating things. She asked me to bring in a cushion, she spoke to her manager and they sent a technican to my house. He said it looked like I got a "bad" batch of furniture and they could replace the cushion. I said NO because then the cushion fabric would be different from the back. They offered me a replace or a refund. I opted for the refund. This time I bought bought velvet. I am not suprised that the store is being attentive, I am sure they have dealt with this before. I guess microfiber can be hit or miss. Good luck....See MoreNeed advice on sofa purchase
Comments (5)My sofa is 30 years old! I did have it reupholstered about ten years ago. It looks great, is comfortable, and works well with my other furniture. I'll definitely re-upholster it (again) before I replace it. Granted, fabric and labor are not cheap. My kids were 4 and 6 when I purchased it, and we have had dogs through the years. I didn't let the two-footed kids or the four-footed ones jump on it or spill on it, but it has been used. It has never been in one of those living rooms that is never occupied. I have seen some fabulous sofas for reasonable prices at nice consignment shops. You might think about that possibility....See MoreMicrofiber? Is it a lint catcher for couch? CL FIND need answer
Comments (14)I just sold a $2000 Ashley leather/wood set (2.5 yo) for $1500. A couch and chaise lounge. Three people called about, all wanting to come see it and no one questioned the price. Nothing wrong with it. It was just too formal for our lifestyle. We replaced with an Ashley microfiber sectional and matching rocker/recliner and bought two end tables. Also bought the extended warranty. I LOVE my Ashley dining room table and find the quality to be great. Hope the couch holds up! I can, btw, tell that the couch isn't as great a quality as the dining table but I'm hoping it will last. It's just mostly DH and me and we're not on it every day. I was told the fabric was microfiber but I've never seen microfiber look like this. Looks like kinda like leather but doesn't feel like leather:...See Moretracyg
