I am about to move forward myself with some GE appliances -have been researching for some time and want to make my decisions this week. Here is where I am at: GE Monogram 42" SxS- I do not want to bend over and mess around with a low pull out freezer- I hate all of the bending. Other choice is a 42" Sub Zero but I think it just does not make sense to pay the extra. Of all of the 42" I liked the new GE the best. GE Monogram double ovens and warming drawer- I have double ovens now and have always loved them. I need two- especially around holidays and do not like one under a stove top. This was my easiest decision. I was also considering Thermadore. I LOVE the sliding racks of the GE- nothing could compare!!! GE Monogram 36" 5 burner cooktop- I am torn between this and a 36" Dacor Renaissance. I happen to like the look and surface of the Dacor much better but I like the fact that the Monogram has all burners that simmer- and less confusing BTU variations. I am not a pro cook- so felt no need for a rangetop- anything will be MUCH better than what I have. I am also looking forward to storing the pots and pans in drawers below. Hood -I have no idea. architect suggested a pro type- will have cabinet overhead. I am looking at GE Monogram as well as a Zephyr Tempest 1 or a Wolf. I actually need to look at this website tonight and figure this out. At any rate I am going with a 36" (not the extra 3" that some suggest) Basic Microwave- I am looking at the smaller GE model. I am not even considering the Advantium- seems cool... and to cook a piece of salmon in no time flat- WOW...but decided to stick with the double ovens and get a basic microwave. I have two kids and we use a microwave all of the time for popcorn, reheating etc. etc. It is easy for them and for me. Everyone suggested that I just get a double oven set up with one convection and a second covection/microwave combo but I want my two basic ovens and a separate simple micro. I cannot really help with your decision so this is just food for thought. If anyone has thoughts on my hood, cooktop dilemma let me know!

Have you looked at Allure flooring that Home Depot sells? We've been pretty happy with it, and believe me that our family of 8 is not all that gentle with it. It's quieter underfoot, wipes up easily (waterproof), installs VERY easily, it doesn't require the foam underlayment, there are no saws or icky laminate dust floating around during installation, and looks just like wood or tile, depending on your preference. It's also fairly inexpensive. Probably cheaper than the lam. your looking at, esp. if you include the foam underlayment in the lam. price. We had laminate in our last house, and the Allure for 2 years in the current house. For us, Allure wins. (I was disappointed with the laminate's chipping, swelling, echoing noise if someone dropped anything on it, boards moving with temperature fluctuations. . .) One caveat, be careful not to drag something gritty across the allure, it's resistant, but it *can scratch. Here is a link that might be useful: Allure at Home Depot

Want a terrible truth? Unless you are buying something made in North Carolina? Rest assured it is most likely junk. Can you get lucky? Sometimes. ...................But the onus here, is on Sticklley. They never INSPECTED before they loaded that on a truck? To deliver to you? I'd make Stickley take the mirror back too. Stickley aws the agent, and should have refused the Lexington well before delivery to you. As to the real issue? The blame is shared by everyone , folks. That is what is sad. You want cheap, fast , and no hard feelings if you toss it in five years or less? That's what sent production to China, Vietnam, . Want a dresser? Go to the consignment shop.........paint the "brown thing". Consignment stores are loaded with "brown" furniture. Second truth is value/quality has nothing to do with a price tag. In this case ? None of either. At the rate we're going, the landfills will be FULL. and only those in the stratosphere will be able to have anything of quality. Nor will most of them care. ........read the beginning again lol

Well, some confusion has been cleared up for those of us who could not see fuzzy-wuzzy's missing post. It is now (a day and a half later) visible above. (it's the one date stamped 11:49 a.m yesterday.) No idea why it wasn't visible yesterday. But having seen that post, I agree even more with Jakvis's comment "... nothing stated here .... takes away from your personal experience with Elux." Maybe I can remedy that. ;>) The OP was "furious [that] Electrolux ... refused to send a replacement immediately." Not clear if the objection was that: (a) Elux didn't have somebody immediately deliver a replacement dryer or (b) didn't overnight a replacement thermister to the repairer. Either way, the complaint begs the question --- what other manufacturer/brand would have done anything differently? None of them. at least as far as I can tell. Read the fine print in the warranty you get with almost any appliance these days and you will find that they all can do what Elux did here. So, while I don't like the way warranty claims are processed these days, it isn't just Electrolux that does things in the way that infuriated the OP. Anybody who has been subjected to this kind of warranty support will want to lash out at those f#*(ing b@$~@&ds and say to never buy anything from them ever again. When the other b@$~@&ds all do the same things, too, it seems to be a pointless threat. When one find out how slowly warranties work, there's a natural wish to lash out. Strikes me that the OP wound up lashing out at us because lashing out at the company wasn't likely to have much effect. So, are we completely helpless with this kind of problem with a new appliance? Unfortunately, these days, I see only two rather limited options available to us. One is what sashiniki suggested which is to buy your appliances from a vendor with both its own support service and the ability (and desire) to respond quickly. Also, it is great if your vendor is willing and able to exercise leverage with the manufacturer but that process is neither certain nor quick in my experience. The other option is doing what the OP wound up doing --- return the defective appliance for a full refund. This option assumes you had the luck or foresight to buy from a retailer with a liberal return policy and assumes you have the capabiity of hauling the thing back to the store.
