Which carpet spot steam cleaner do you recomend?

I want to buy something like one of the Bissell Spot Bots. I need to spot clean the apartment carpeting for inspection before moving into the new house -- and since I'll be getting a puppy this fall, I'm sure I'll need a spot cleaner for Spot's "spots!"

Which ones should I consider? Do you have one you swear by? I posted on "Cleaning" but got no response, so I'm depending on you Flooring people!!

The carpeting in the apartment might best be described as "beige apartment standard." I have no idea what it is, but I'd bet it was cleaned with a soap solution before we moved in because spots showed up immediately -- it's just DH and me, and we hadn't spilled anything -- they appeared just from walking over the carpet. I'm sure they were former spots showing up again.

The new house will have Sorona carpeting -- shouldn't have any trouble getting things out, but I'm sure we'll have puppy mishaps.

Any of the better steam machines will produce hot steam - that's their purpose. By spot cleaning, do you mean spot cleaning rugs? Check for a rug cleaning attachment. I have not tried to spot clean my carpeting with my steamer. I only use it on hard surfaces, so I can't help you with this. The link to the $3,000 and up commercial ones are way beyond what you need in an apartment.

I'm impressed with my new SpotBot for Pet Stains that I bought at Target last month. I use Bissell's OxyGen2 cleaner in it and it gets out the stains my cat leaves when she's trying to bring up a hairball. The only stain it won't get out is the pink stain from when she had just eaten tuna flavored Pounces, (and I have since tossed out the bag...no more red dye foods). The only way I'll get those pink stains out is when I have Stanley Steamer do the entire carpet. The SpotBot is light enough for me to carry around the house (which is a plus!!). You just push the button and it works for 6 minutes cleaning and then suctioning up the moisture. Stains are gone.

I've also been wanting to ask about this. I've been reading reviews all over the internet, and people seem to either love or hate every machine out there. It's very frustrating. I have shedding cats, and almost all hard flooring. The entry, kitchen, LR, DR, bathrooms, laundry room, and hallways are all stone-look tile, so the surface is uneven. I also have WHITE grout. Mopping this with a regular string mop just kills my wrists and shoulders, and some days, it just looks like dirty water settles into the low spots on the tile and grout, and I've "rearranged" the dirt, rather than cleaned it. That Bissell mop gets (almost all) great reviews, and you sure can't beat the price. Wonder how it works on uneven tile? The PO's installed this flooring, and when we bought the place, we just loved it. When it's freshly cleaned, it's just gorgeous, but keeping it that way has been a big chore. And white grout would have never been my choice for any flooring anywhere.

I have used several different kinds in the past- but I have just bought my second Hoover Steam Vac. I burned my motor up sucking water out of the basement carpet after a pipe burst. I saved the holding tank and immediately went to WallyWorld and bought another one. IMHO they are the easiest to use and remove more water than the others I have used. I do not have pets in the house, but I have a man and a couple boys who track in enough dirt to choke a horse... And by the way, I have bought an extra Ureka upright bagless, yellow, I think Altima? Those are the ABSOLUTE best vac I have ever seen. I have recommended it to several people who have purchased them and love them as well. I didn't realize how much dirt I was leaving with my windtunnel or Kirby until my son brought me his to try. He gave me his, and bought his GF one and himself another. I would buy one at a yard sale if I could find one. I never want to be without one!! :)

It is probably a low end Nylon .
I would just have it Chem dried .
If it is just dirt you can try some club soda on a clean white rag , and then wipe it with a clean white rag with water . the dirt will stick to the soda , and the water will take the soda out . Or you can rent one of those steam cleaners at HD [etc] for around $30.00 a day .

most home units don't have the suction to adequately pull the moisture out of the cpt and most people over soap the spot making it worse. Overall carpet cleaning with steam is the recommended from most carpet mills.

Unfortunately, we're specifically instructed not to clean it or have it cleaned -- but it's supposed to be spot free. So maybe I'll just get some Resolve and touch it up.

Could not agree with you more Boxer . I have a pro steam cleaner with two big vacuum moters that only take out 95 % of the moisture if you are not racing across the floor with the wand .
Personally with these Synthetic backings i still think chem dry is the way to go . But i think hostagrams is just looking for a cheap and quik fix to get the security deposit back .

Exactly, Organic_Nick . . . I think I'll just try plain water and lots of towels to soak it up, and where that fails, Resolve.

The club soda will work on most tannin stains . Plain water is just going to ruin the cpt . It is all the water that delaminates the latex from the backing . They use to have a powder you sprinkled on the rug , waited a half hour and vacuumed it. I'll check for you to see if it is still on the market .

resolve hasn known to turn some cpt orange. Even though its made by DuPont I wouldn't risk it. Use the most gentle cleaner you can find and try it first in a corner.

Plus the chemical residue of that stuff gets trapped in the fiber of the cpt . Looks like the stain is out till you have the cpt cleaned , then it will highlight the area again .

Please get Folex. It's the best spot remover I have ever used. They used to sell it only at hardware stores but I have found it at the market also.
I have rentals, pets, kids and several different types of carpet and never a problem. No need for rinsing.
I have a Bissell carpet cleaner and it cleans ok but I just notice that I can use the Fotex in the machine. For sure next time.
