Forgottenone: If my garlic is any indication, you've got it backwards on the flowering. All of my softnecks produced scapes and none of the hardnecks produced a scape. WJB2: for future reference, wait until your plants have lost their bottom 3 - 4 leaves (dried up and turned brown), stop irrigating and when the ground is dried and not wet enough to stick badly to the bulbs then, lift the plants with a turning fork and carefully remove them from the ground. Now it's off to cleaning and curing as described by others previously.

Hi had a similar experience ,not with hail but bac k to back hurricanes. There was not a single leaf in the entire yard lol. Just as things started to leaf out again ,Jeanne hit and repeated the whole process. Pool and plants were flatened. Total of 32 days without electricity. Not only did everything survive within three months it was difficult to tell anything had happened at all. I removed as much broken debris as possible which turned out to be a good idea as we had a third that year and the trees needed pruning for sure .lol. Only one tree still has scars from the storms but everything survived including us lol. I did lose 6 birds from the aviary from escape when the side was torn out and the Marine aquarium crashed . Decided not to replace it due to the expense. About the only thing you can do is remove as much broken material as possible from the pool . Hopefully there'll be enough time to recover before cold weather sets in??? gary

I wasn't very clear, was I? Carla17--does that bit in the bottom photo look bad? It's so hard to tell "good" wood from wood which should be pruned. Yes, these photos are of the portions I removed. I've tied up the one cane--is it cane or stem? which remains. Should I post pictures of it? What parts do you need to see? I was pruning the short bit you see in the top of the bottom photo when I made the "devasting" cut. The bright green bit growing on it can be seen to the left as a bit of foiliage way down at the bottom of the stem/cane in the top photo. The other, yellowish bit supported the stuff in the top picture. (I wasn't paying attention to my camera settings when I took it. Apologies for the painful photo.)

Charles, I'll be 69 this year and have citrus in heavy 22" clay pots. I also have figs in half whiskey barrels. Been rethinking that one. Anyway my husband and I move them with a 2 wheeled cart (dolly). I think that I could move the clay pots by myself if I had to - probably not the half whiskey barrels. The leverage is all wrong. If worst comes to worst, I'll top and root prune the plants to fit them in smaller pots, sort of bonsai them over time. I suppose when I get very old I may not be able to grow the plants that I like but I intend to fight it. Buylady, We move the citrus out in the Spring about mid-April and back in in the Fall about October 7th. The timing is based on frost dates here. Because the moves are only twice a year, it may be easier to coordinate it with your helper than this year. Cath
