Limoncello Cream Cake

So, I was at my favorite authentic Italian restaurant and for the first time noticed their tiny almost hidden bakery display with a gorgeous cake with pale yellow icing. The sign said "Limoncello Cake". I had to take home a piece. OMG. Totally heaven. I have to make it at home for me. I know the baker would never use artificial anything (it's that kind of place), like me, so I went searching.

Looking all over the web all I could find was Italian Cream Cake with coconut (authentic cream cake but nooo) and Italian Lemon Cake from a cake mix (nooo), Limoncello Cake - a plain pound cake with walnuts and with berries in the filling (nooo), or plain old Lemon Cake with lemon curd (so nooo).

Can someone help me? Perhaps you have an Italian cookbook with a recipe for this kind of cake? I would so appreciate it because at $6.50 per slice, I'd be broke really quickly since it is 34 miles to the restaurant and back several times a day that I envision.......

Nancy

P.S. I make my own limoncello.

This cake was not quite the texture of a pound cake, baked in a tube pan, two layers, each about a whopping 3" high, filling and icing of lemon butter cream that was more stiff than frosting and less stiff than fondant and not as cloying, and definitely had puncturing of limoncello in the cake when it was warm.

Arghhhh!
