HELP - Kitchen Remodel, Radiant Heat, Wood Floors?

Greetings to everyone. I am trying to get to consensus after reading 100+ posts on the issue of engineered or laminate "wood" over radiant. We prefer the look of wood, but have a budget and don't want to spend $10/ft so we had settled on stone or ceramic tile but thought to give wood one more shot.

I understand that natural wood is out because of shrinkage and expansion (right now we have the original kitchen floor (125 years old) and at night when I put the basement lights on you can get quite a light show through the floor joints.

That leaves engineered and laminate if we want "wood". Yet when I read the installation instructions for these products there are so many disclaimers that I'm surprised you can walk on it. One of the products (engineered), claimed the warranty is voided for "spike heel" damage. time to get out the dress mocasins.

I want a "vintage", not modern look, but have radiant heat and I would love to learn from the experiences of others.

Thanks!!!
