Fennel? ? ?

After seeing Dcarch's amazing pictures
of his meals featuring Fennel,
I've been wanting to try some.
I've nibbled on the fronds before,
But I have never cooked with it.
And it does sound yummy!

I have seen it in our stores in the past,
But now that I'm wanting some,
There is none to be found anywhere.
So today I asked the produce manager in one store
If he could get some for me.
He said he'd try,
But they have to get it by the case.

So my question is. . . .
If (and that is really a pretty big IF)
they actually do get some in,
And I try it and like it,
(Or if I feel obligated to buy quite a lot)
What would be the best way to keep some?

I know I can dry the fronds.
But what about the bulbs?? ?
Can they be frozen successfully?
Should they blanched first?
Cooked first?

Suggestions, anyone? ?
