Trendy Vs. Classical Contemporary

I like contemporary/transitional styles but plan to pay for the top-notch quality. I did start from value City furniture and gradually learned my way to Ethan Allen/Thomasville to Stanley/Benhardt to Henredon/HenkelHarris/Hickory White/Stickley etc. A lot of my learnings come from this board so thanks to everyone contributing to this community first!

I saw this Hickory White Gramercy Panel Bed in a local show room and liked it:

HW is really nice quality, the matching pieces all have very solid constructions, dovetails. Yet I'm not sure if it's just a temporary eye candy instead of something that I know I will love for a long time. Unlike the other Henkel Harris transitional style oval table and oval back chairs, which I feel have a more classical taste to it's comtemporary design.

Value wise, is it totally a waste of money to go for somewhat contemporary pieces from high end manufacturers? How would you differentiate Trendy contemprorary from Classical Contemporary?
