The gap at the bottom needed for proper operation allows enough sound to pass that the material of the door would not matter. There wouldn't be any reason to install sound insulation in the adjacent walls either. Pocket doors are best used for normally open doors that are rarely closed because many people don't have the patience to close them. There are privacy locks. Johnson make a push bottom model. Pocket doors are not good choices for bathrooms or for children but fortunately a good designer can easily avoid them except in very difficult renovations. An alternative pocket door is a RR car design where the door is larger than the opening so there is room for a pull handle. funny you should mention this. We just got a bid for the same doors i believe i the 8 foot size and they actual doors came to nearly $2800k and the two side lights came to $1200. This was for 5'x8' doors though

Thank you for the info! I've actually changed my plans and will use 5/8 drywall instead. Also, I'm a bit green so I didn't know about the slab/prehung meaning when it came to pocket doors. Due to this, I'll purchase two 1 3/8in slab french doors. Currently debating if I want to go the MDF route or not since $$$. The contractor will be supplying the wall studs, baseboards, quarter rounds and door casing. For the door jambs, do I have to purchase ones there are specific for double pocket doors? Perhaps I'll ask the contractor if he can cut them himself. Yes, the kits include the rolling hardware.
