Concrete floor over wood floor/subfloor

Hello!

We will be pouring concrete in our kitchen, former pantry (will now house refrigerator) and former laundry room (will be pantry). The kitchen has a concrete base but the pantry and laundry room and merely wood floors (wood subfloors below). Can we safely pour concrete over these wood areas or do we need to look into strengethening the floor joists, especially in the room that will house the refrigerator?

Our house was built in the 1920s if that contributes anything. My husband is a contractor but hasn't worked with concrete as a flooring material. He's mentioned using cement board, some sort of flexible membrane to the concrete won't crack but my main concern is weight.
