Hi, maddoxliam. Long story short: The store trimmed the chair legs a bit, and we'll see how that works out when we actually start using the set. By How Much Did We Shorten the Chair Legs? The store trimmed 3/4" off the chair legs, restained the cut edges, and re-attached the plastic glides. Although I hated to lose some of the curve of the legs, I could not possibly keep the chairs at their original height. We're going to live with this for a while before we decide whether we need to have a bit more trimmed off. We certainly don't want to end up with chairs that are too low for the table! Saloom Chair Dimensions Seat Height Saloom uses the same chair frame for their wood-seat chairs and their upholstered-seat chairs, thus the approximately 2" difference in height. DH is 5'10" and DS is 6'2", so they didn't notice anything (good or bad) about our 20-inch-high chair seats. The store owner said he discusses this beforehand with customers who are not tall, and suggests that they come into the store to try out their dining set before it's delivered so the proper trim amount can be determined. He didn't do this in my case since I'm borderline short (5'4") and was wearing high heels. Saloom Chair Dimensions  Seat Dimensions The Saloom web site does not give details about the seat dimensions, just the overall chair dimensions. I would recommend that you view the furniture at a store so you know how the chairs fit you, which tables and chairs go well together IRL, and how many chairs you can really fit around the table at Thanksgiving. For example, the seat of the #27 chair is quite wide and deep, which contributed to my too-high-seat problems. About the Dark Wood Finish We haven't used the set yet because we are waiting for a custom glass top to be delivered from a local glass shop. The table and chairs are in Ebony, which is a beautiful satin black finish. The Chocolate that you mention is a dark espresso and very close to black. Anyway, I saw from the store's display models that the darker finishes scratch and smudge quite noticeably. In fact, the store owner told me he strongly discourages families with young children from purchasing dark finishes at all. He had too many customer complaints in the past. I've already put a tiny scratch in the table base by bumping it with a chair... We'll have to get used to the dimensions of the broad pedestal base. Luckily, Old English dark oil hides the scratch quite well. BTW, a Saloom distributor will have upholstery samples and wood finish samples. I had a Saloom brochure and studied their web site, but the medium maple tones I thought I wanted turned out not to be a good match after I viewed the actual furniture and samples in the store. The same applies to the styles of the furniture pieces. Maybe the store will agree to keep the furniture in case it turns out to be wrong for you and you agree to purchase something else from them. The pieces are custom made to order (mine took 8 weeks to arrive in California), so be sure to get this in writing if you can get the store to agree to such an escape clause as mine did. HTH! doccom

Mtgirlann I'm curious what your final decision was as I am now facing the same decision. My husband wants the vaulted ceiling and I can see the appeal given that we are right up against a mountain so the view will be up close and looking up. Our great room is 32' x 16' with the peak splitting the long side of the room. We could do a 14' peak or 17' peak on the vault. 17' sounds too high but it might look ok proportionally given that the room is quite wide? All the pics I can find online look too high but the rooms aren't as wide and I'm also not sure how tall those ceilings actually are. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for your feedback! Same setup, the tall cabinet will be an integrated fridge. Haven't decided on doors just yet, but was considering using some temporary doors from Ikea to play around with drawer placement and then going with custom fronts. So sounds like #1 would be the way to go. On #3, if I was going with a stainelss steel counter I would just have the side wrapped in stainless sheet, but probably not worth the complexity.

I think they are too tall to use and a waste. Do eight feet all around for a cohesive look.
