Right, it doesn't have to come out separately like a laptop. We just traveled this past weekend with it.

Never took it out of my carryon. It's not considered a laptop because it doesn't have a hard drive or any removable panels etc�

Honestly, quite surprised they don't make you put all electronic devices - phones included through a separate scan since it seems to me you could take any device and make it into something that blows up.

I've always left mine in my carry-on, without a problem.

I've never had to remove mine either.

I travel with both, and have to take my MacBook out, but can leave my iPad in my carry-on bag.

Same for me, iPad has always just stayed in my carry-on or purse.

Depends on the airport - both in the U.S. and in Europe I've had to take my iPad out of my carry-on some places, and in others told not necessary.

Seagrass-that is what happened to me. I would love to quote the TSA guidelines if they make me take it out but I am afraid they would then label me as non cooperative and I would have add'l problems. We are leaving on a European trip next week which involves many transfers during the trip. I don't want the extra hassle of having to deal with taking it out of the bag. I would rather leave it at home if it is going to be a problem!
