Yea Teresa! I know how fun it's going to be to have that new cooking related organization.

I am dreaming about a new pantry too. I've got a "L" shaped reach in. I'm dying to bump out the laundry room to make a butler's pantry. I added a pantry to the garage but of course it can't accommodate food items.

There are some very intimidating pantrys on this forum, including Sheshebop's.

Pictures please! I need to re-organize mine. Have fun and enjoy. I would not be without my walk in pantry.

Teresa, My pantry had shelves that were far apart wasting much head space like yours. I added shelves between each of the existing shelves to double the space. I'm assuming your remodel project will include adding more shelves.

That is absolutely wonderfully, exciting news. There is nothing more fun than making improvements to a kitchen. You have to post pix when it is complete. Hey, you should have posted before pix also. Woops. Too late.

teresa hurray for you! I love, love, love old homes. I wish I lived in one - honest. I'm with the others that I would love to see a picture of the finished job.

They're not only adding more shelves, but they are cutting down the existing shelves to about 9-inches and making an L-shaped arrangement of the shelves with the top of the L just inside the pantry door to the right. The opposite area to the left of the pantry door will have some large hooks for me to hang the wok, the roaster, aprons, strainers, colanders, etc. The two top shelves are remaining as is for extra stuff that is not used very often, like 3 or 4 thermoses? Why do I need that many?

The removal has gone smoothly, but I can't find my smallest crock pot - got the lid, but no pot. I've got a box to go to the local thrift shop and quite a bit has gone in the trash.

You begin to wonder about yourself when you start tossing sooooo many decorative tins. I've got my fingers in my ears and I'm not listening to that little person that says...."this might be needed someday".....la lala la la lala....I can't hear you....la la lala!

Good for you Teresa. It is so nice to see what you have even if, like me, you have too much!

Freecycle...people LOVE those tins etc.

Teresa, I'm also excited for you. Just after the holidays, I took everything out of my pantry & started over. Now, there's no food in there at all...it's storage for just cookware. I moved the food to the lazy-Susan & a couple cupboards. It's not working. Everytime I spin the 'Susan' something flies off the back & I can't get it out without unloading the entire thing to reach back there. It's just an impossible situation. So, I'm looking forward to seeing how you configure your pantry! Hopefully, it will motivate me to get Lance in here to rebuild mine. Lots of pictures, please.

Yes, I can tell you are excited Teresa. I would be too. Nothing like fixing, updating, or getting something new for your home. For this group I'm guessing the kitchen is on the top of the list. I look forward to your pics when everything is said and done.

OMG Teresa! When I saw the picture I thought you took a picture of my pantry! Mine is exactly the same! I could see a wire basket to the right, is that hung on the door? My pantry has wire baskets hanging on the door. My door does open to the left though, and my trim is oak not painted. I can't wait to see pictures of what they do, I have been wanting to do something with mine for a decade. I just can't figure a way to make it better.

OMG Teresa and Joanne! That is my pantry, too! I did fine some narrow wire risers a long time ago and cobbled them together to line the perimeter of one of the shelves, so I can at least get to my stacked cans without having to pull everything out. I also have a shallow wire basket hooked onto one shelf, where I store plastic lids. My door is a louvred bi-fold, like you would find on a bedroom closet. I have a theory that at one time, maybe a previous owner had a large freezer or maybe a spare refrigerator in that space - because there's also an outlet in it!

YAY Teresa! A long time ago I had a pantry that looked like your before pantry. You are gonna love the new L shaped narrow shelves. I know I did when I had my old pantry re-worked. It felt like I had so much more space even though I probaby lost some. When I sold that house the buyer loved that pantry.

Good going about resisting saving stuff for another day.

I am really trying to evaluate everything that I bring into this house. I've never been a depressed person but the last couple of months the CARP has been getting me down, particularity the kitchen stuff. Two years ago instead of dealing with the CARP, I had two of these pantry units build in the garage.

I have to ask myself "when was the last time I used something in the outside pantry?" I have been Freecycling like crazy to get rid of it.

Good for you, Cathy! It has felt very liberating to get rid of some stuff. I don't think I'm done yet!

Karen, even if I lose a little "air" space, I will be gaining a lot more efficient shelf space and I can organize things better. I even might be able to lose the hanging shelves on the back of the door, then I can actually get in the pantry - what a novel idea!
