Marmoleum Click

Has anyone here ever used Marmoleum Click? I am redoing a small kitchen and don't want tile or vinyl. I was researching Marmoleum and see that they have some attractive "tiles" that click into place with no glue. Anyone have any experience with these? Do they look good and do they last? I have wood flooring with old peeling up vinyl which will be torn off. Was also wondering if I would need a new subfloor on top of the wood floor. Thanks!

I am looking into Click also. I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience installing it. Gypsyrose, my understanding is that you just need a clean, smooth base to install the click on. So if your old vinyl is in bad shape it will need to be removed. Any lumps or holes in the underlying surface greater than 3/16" need to be filled or sanded smooth. Use a cement-based self-levelling product to fill in any low spots.

Bumping this up, as I just discovered this product. Don't even know if I can find a dealer in my area.

What about other similar products?

Hello zippydj, I had same thing occur in previous home ( did Ikea kitchen ) and was not about to pull cabinets to deal with the floor. You may want to contact marmoleum dealer to make sure you won't have a warranty issue if you don't run it all the way. Mine was fine for the 4 years I was there (laminate) but I was in SoCal and didn't worry about water issues. I just laid the vapor barrier up to the legs and then used the plinth (I think it was called).

You may want to talk to your state's Dept. of Natural Resources and ask about their regulations on asbestos removal practices. You might be surprised, depending on where you live, at how seemingly simple it is to comply with asbestos removal regulations, methods of removal and disposal as a homeowner. For a 4x4 area, I would try to remove the existing underlayment and all layers of tile at once and not cut into the potential asbestos containing tile and adhesive. This should be able to be done if there are no walls or built-ins on top of the existing floor. Once you get down to the sub-floor, install a nice, clean piece of underlayment grade underlayment and install your Marmoleum sheet or Click product. Plan it so that the new floor and the existing hardwood are the same height and use a custom made transition or one that Marmoleum produces for use with their floors (yes, respect expansion). This is my quick, knee jerk answer to this flooring dilemma. Follow the Marmoleum instructions to the letter. The sheet goods especially have some special instructions that should not be overlooked or minimized. Cutting the hole for the toilet: drill a hole in the click plank, set your jigsaw in it and cut to and around the traced line you have marked to indicate the size and location of where the toilet will be in relation to the tile.

What colors did you get? I *love* my Marmoleum click floor in kitchen/dining area but we did not get a good installation. Also ordered from Green Building Supply and was going to DIY with the help of a handywoman. Long story, blah blah blah, subfloor had more issues than in my skill set so we hired company recommended by designer who was supposed to be experienced in Marmoleum. Turns out they were assuming it would be the same as vinyl click products and did a lot more of banging the pieces together than how you supposed to get just the right angle with the Marm and gently put them together. Their floor leveling plan was also not good so now we have areas where the squares/planks do not come together as tightly as they are supposed to and the company backpedaled on trying to fix it and instead refunded almost all of our install $$. I'd rather have my beautiful floor done right!! My recommendation is to keep looking for someone with Marmoleum experience. Or, if that's not possible, someone who will watch the video, read the instructions and practice a few rows to make sure they can get those subsequent rows to go in cleanly. Side to side is super easy so don't judge by that.

I've had a few clients of mine "look" at the marmoleum floating tiles...only to find out they can't go in bathrooms (only sheet lino can go in "wet" rooms). The fun thing about floating a floor in a garage is: you have to FLATTEN the garage floor. Most garages have a SLOPE...so that water runs OUT to the street. This slope can be significant. When converting garages to living spaces, this is one of the FIRST of MANY expensive upgrades that has to happen. Go ahead and measure the slope and find out what it costs to have it levelled. Then find out how much of your flooring budget has been eaten by the levelling. Once you have a budget, you can then have a look at floating floor options. Good luck. I've heard good things about marmoleum's floating floor products....but they are just like every other floating floor (with HDF core) = can't go in areas like bathrooms or laundry rooms. They are an lovely, expensive version of laminate. They are not water proof like their sheet cousins.

We just DIY'd about 80 square feet of Marmoleum Click in Sahara in our kitchen.

It is a fantastic material, very nice on the foot and easy to keep clean. We had a natural bamboo floor in there initially and our dog just tore it up, lots of gouges everywhere, and was difficult to keep clean.

If you do a search on this forum, you should find a few posts that are informative regarding the type of underlayment that's needed (level surface is required). Installation was a breeze - much easier than some laminate flooring that we put in on our second floor.

Good to hear about the easy cleanup. Living on a real working farm - I see a variety of livestock come through the house~ Durable is important.

We're going with click! Today we pick it up and I'm excited to get it installed. We are doing panels in 'caribbean' with squares of 'blue' and 'whispering blue' thrown in "randomnly" (Not so "random", really, since I did a layout on my computer so we'd know where to put the squares and where to put the seams). I have sheet linoleum (Armstrong's product) in my mudroom, laundry & bathroom and am very happy with how it wears and how it feels underfoot. I am glad Marmoleum came up with a do-it-yourself product.
