So Johnny can't read cause his elbows hurt from resting them on a hard desk. Now we know.

And now I'm more convinced than ever that the lovely cast iron legs bolted to the floor that supported oak desks with tilted lids and with cut outs for inkwells served a greater good than I ever thought they did... . (Penmanship mattered then).

And following that there were the Mission inspired chairs and desks... and the cool, modernist inspired "boomerang" chairs and moulded chairs...

Somehow, strangely enough, my parents, my brother, and I learned to read, write, and cypher sitting on or behind any one of those mentioned above. Go figure!

johnliu, interesting topic. We recently had shelving built in our pantry (I posted more pictures than anyone could want to see!). In order not to have a visible vertical support at the back corner where the side shelves meet the back shelves, our carpenter cut (with a hand saw!!) an angled notch in the back shelf and also angled the end of the side shelf. The side shelf snugs down in and rests on the back shelf: I was amazed by how well this turned out. Once they got their final coat of paint, you barely even see the seam. And the support this joint gives is STRONG! I just love this kind of attention to detail and craftsmanship.

But I'll try to do a little something something :D Even if it's just saying hello with some ultra nutty pecan bars :D I'm hoping to buy some bar stools for the kitchen asap... ones that will go under the island as temp eating. We are also going to be getting one of those 6 or 8ft tables from costco with folding chairs for the mean time, if that's what we eat on for Thanksgiving, so be it. It will give us the "Remeber 35 years ago, our first thanksgiving in a new home and we ate on folding chairs and paper plates?" -- well we have plates. hehe. We figure that this type of table/chairs will ALWAYS come in handy during parties. Also more links about our journey there.

LOL Chelone. Ours were maple, not oak. It was always an adventure to look for graffiti that might have been put there by your dad or an uncle.
