We have high end grocery near us. Budget store is 4 miles away. They have nice meat dept. have 7oz gourmet burgers for 1$. All varieties have chopped mushrooms, cheese or other filler. I asked butcher if they had non-filler, all meat versions? Yep, for twice the price. And the gourmet burgers are made from lesser quality meat while the regular burgers are made from better meat. So they add floor sweepings/filler to cheap meat to make the, taste better? Sneaky. But than all ground meat is nasty. But I do eat it. I am a carnivore you know.

Grind your own. Semi-frezon chuck of chuck roast in a Cuisinart, pulse until just ground, do not over process.

And BTW, the best meat for real burgers is the fattiest stuff, burgers will be juicy and delicious.

Why do you think they add floor sweepings. I for one would never work at that place if I had to do that. I would rather work at a fast food restaurant and I think most people feel the same. And I would call the organization that watches over processing companies like that and report them. Maybe you were joking.

I use a Le Cruset 5 qt dutch oven, and put about 2 or 3 pounds of onions through the Cuisinart with the 1 MM slicing blade if you have one....or the 2 MM is you don't. Pile the onions into the Dutch oven and add most of a stick of butter ( about 6 tablespoons) and turn the flame on low.....when the butter melts, stir, and keep cooking on low....giving a stir every 15 minutes or so until they are dark brown and very sweet....takes easily 45 minutes. Great piled on top of a slice of fried calves liver....or you can just stir in about 1/4 cup flour and add a quart of chicken broth and a quart of beef broth.....simmer 20 minutes or so adn serve with a slice of toasted french in the bottom of the bowl, piled with shredded Swiss or Gruyere and Parmesan cheese....add the hot soup!

Hamburg Root Parsley

Never tried root parsley, but I have had very good results growing Italian, or flat-leaf parsley varieties in a pot. It's a biennial so it lasts 2 years for me before going to seed - and then I can save the seed to plant again. During the hot months, I move the pot to dappled shade, and I use a very deep pot to help keep the roots cool. 1 approx. 16 inch dia. pot sown thickly, provides more than enough parsley for me - and I use lots of parsley. Parsley prefers rich, fairly moist soil, IMPE.

Thank you all so much for all your good ideas! Here is what I'm making, and who is coming. 6 adults and 2 small elementary school-age children. I will make 12, 1/3 lb 80/20 burgers and have a giant tray of toppings that include several different cheeses, lettuce, homegrown magnificent tomatoes lol, onion, pickle, avocado tossed with lime, that sort of thing. Buns Ina garten's French potato salad and I will double the recipe so it uses 6 pounds of potatoes. This is always beloved and it was requested. Pam Anderson's peach cobbler and that will get tripled and I also have a carton of Breyers natural vanilla ice cream to go with it. Watermelon slices Iced tea Everything will be served in heavy duty super large aluminum foil pans or attractive plastic bowls, nothing that I have to take home. This is one of my best friends family and she has a broken arm. Last week I took them marinated grilled pork loin and chicken breast, Redskin mashed potatoes- yes I know that's being repeated somewhat but it was requested, squash casserole, salad with a ton of stuff in it, homemade brownies, cookies and cream ice cream, homemade caramel sauce

How do we go from adding mushrooms or cheese to floor sweepings? Hamburger is and always was a way to use up scraps and make otherwise tough cuts more palatable, so the idea of a "gourmet" hamburger is a bit of an oxymoron. And, yes, processors have added fillers to hamburger.

If you want really good 100% beef hamburger, pick a roast and have the butcher grind it for you. Or, grind it yourself.

like water off a ducks back. i know stores sell different fat content ground beef. different cuts of meat that is ground up also will affect price. ask butcher to point out different varieties of their ground beef.

Cavell, I'm not a carnivore, I'm an Omnivore. I eat grains,fruit and vegetables also. My cat is a carnivore. My dog is like me, she even eats McDonalds and pizza.

I don't eat grains,fruits,veggies. Meat mostly. Some chicken.
