Our bank screwed up...

After seeing many wise responses to other GW members problems I am hoping for opinions on this issue.

Our bank screwed up a property tax payment to our County.

We were sent confirmation from our bank that the taxes had been paid. They were not.

Our home almost went into a tax lien sale due to the bank screw up.

Our name and address was published as delinquent taxpayers in the local papers.

Our bank did finally pay the taxes and late penalties before the taxes were sold.

Our bank was rude, snide, and laughed when I asked for compensation for their screw up.

I filed a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC)

A case was opened by the OCC.

Bank now will compensate and will have a retraction printed in the papers stating we are not delinquent taxpayers.

Here is where I need an opinion.

We want to have the retraction printed to clear our name but wonder if by doing so it may bring people to the conclusion we have had financial problems (which we have not). We are opening a business in this County soon (our business is not financially related). We have always handled our finances responsibly and we were MORTIFIED when our names were printed as delinquent taxpayers.

Does anyone ever really read those lists of delinquent taxpayers in the papers?

Would you have the retraction printed?

Thanks all.
