Installing Porcelain Tile over Sheet Vinyl

Main Bathroom: I have sheet vinyl glued to luan which is glued to my subfloor (3/4" tongue and grooved on 2x12 pine joists). The flooring place unfortunately glued the luan to the subfloor which means a huge mess to remove. We've already done that when having laminate installed.

I am going to have porcelain tile installed and I'm wondering if we could leave the vinyl (screw it down), install 1/4" hardibacker and then the tile. Even if we remove the vinyl/luan, we would have to add 1/2" cement board to reach the minimum substrate to support our .374 thick porcelain tile.

What is the best way to handle this installation? At the threshold is .5" Bruce Laminate so there is going to be quite the difference but my first concern is to have the tile job done right so it lasts for years without problems.

Thanks for your help.
