King Hickory versus Temple Furniture
Comments (4)Temple is located in Maiden NC, about 7 miles or so south of Hickory. Its been a while but last info I have is Temple still uses stick built frames and King Hickory mainly uses engineered plywood. Almost all upholstery manufactures outsource their cushions to foam fabricators. So many times the cushions are the same, but someone's standard could be another's firmer option, plus their arent that many foam pourers, so they all have about the same types of foam. A good source for info about foam can be found below. The other options are pocketed coil springs and latex, all are upgrades from the standard polyurethane foam and HR is a better grade of polyurethane. Here is a link that might be useful: polyurethane foam...See MoreSmith Bros of Berne vs King Hickory Sofas
Comments (7)King Hickory may have the fabric you like but after one day you might not like it so much. We picked out a gorgeous herringbone chenille that looked way too good to be in their standard price. Sit or lean on it once and it was ruined. Sofa looks 20 years old and we bought it about 2 years ago. No kids or dogs, either. I wish I would have gone with the Smith Bros. I had one years back and it was wonderful. There used to be a poster here would talked about a fabric's "rub count" (I think). Try Googling that and it will give you a test to do so you can find out how good the fabric is. Good luck!...See MoreKing Hickory - Quality or Crap?
Comments (6)They are mid-to mid-upper end, this segment of the industry is very competitive. Their are many other manufacturers that are in the same price/quality category. The above description is not actually correct, as many if not most of their frames are plywood frames without spring-edge seats. Anytime your paying $2000. plus for a sofa covered in their grade 1 or grade A fabric, it should be hardwood kiln dried frames, double-doweled and glued, 8-way tied coil spring seats, fully lined and padded, "be well tailored", stripe / flow-matched, skirts fitted at ends: not folded back under, Seat cushions should be 2.0+ density HR foam core wrapped with soft HR toppers: not polyester wrap or fill. But this will require quite a bit of effort to find this quality of sofa anymore....See MoreKing Hickory vs. Marshfield sofas
Comments (2)Both companies make a good product. Marshfield is made by a company located in Wisconsin. They had focused their merchandising on western styled products such as you might find at a hunting lodge or ski lodge in Aspen, Vail or on a very nice ranch but they now have a much broader mix. It is very well built with a drop in coil unit. I am not certain if the frame is hardwood or hardwood plywood. I think it is a mix of both....See Morecarmela39
