I agree with everyting above, with the exception of the comment about staples. They are much maligned and misunderstood and several friends of mine who reupholster swear by them. In our marine climate stainless staples outlast even the best quality tacks and there is no rusting. The holes they create are smaller and the load is spread more evenly. A properly adjusted staple gun and the proper size staple can be set much more efficiently with no damage to the frame. I've had 5 pieces reupholstered over the years, the youngest in the 50-60 yr. old range (in original upholstery!). All were completely "ripped down", the frames checked for "racking" and the "wobbles" and tightened. All the webbing was removed and replaced, the springs reused and re-tied. Any horsehair (on the really old pieces) was cleaned and reused, fluffed up and secured with bridle ties. All the foam in the cushions of the newer pieces was replaced (I sampled the density of the foam before deciding which one to use), and wrapped in batting with a non-woven cover. Every piece came home looking wonderful and I've never regretted having them redone. Reupholstery is labor instensive. You are paying someone who lives locally to take the time to fuss over your furniture. They have worked hard to amass and perfect their skills, they have overhead, and they pay taxes, too. Personally? I would rather pay a tradesman/craftsman in my own country to breathe new life into something I find pleasing and works in my home. I agree than many of new particle board pieces are not worth the time required, but any good upholsterer will tell you that at the time the estimate is given.

Wow, this August my Bauhaus sofa will be 18 years old and looks great still. I bought it at Filenes Home Furniture in 2000. It's gone through several moves, storage for 6 months in a non climate control unit, a pregnancy, a baby, sickness cleanups, naps, guests sleeping on it etc. The seat cushions are perfect still. The fabric has worn great, it was a nubby type look so it had an older vintage look even when new. I've washed and dried the zip off cushion covers a few times. I've had 3 different slip covers on it over the years to change up the look. It never looked dated because it's has a basic 2 seat cushion and classic rolled arms. I did get tired of the loose pillow back style, which is currently covered by a sure fit 3 piece slip cover. I just now looked under the cushion to get the brand name because it's made so well, but I'm looking for a new style. This is how I landed here. Sounds like the company has gone done hill over the years. I have never owned ANY SOFA this long, by 5 years I'm usually done.

I am happy to share my experience with Ethan Allen Sleeper sofas hoping it will help others. We bought a Paramount Sleeper Sofa in 2013. In 2017 we noticed that the front pad that supports the cushions was bulging out (see photo). We contacted Ethan Allen and they said that because the problem was not in the frame, it was out of warranty. I looked at other pieces of furniture in our home and I noticed that the EA sofa, unlike other items, had a very “squishable” pad to support the cushions. We told EA that the sofa is seldom used (at most 20 times per year) and that my husband an I are not heavy and felt that there must be a problem with the design or construction. The final decision came in an email, from which I copy directly: “In conjunction with our warranty department, Jenn and I have carefully reviewed each of your questions and concluded that the sofa is up to our manufacturing standards.” We were told that our only option was to buy a replacement pad and pay a technician to replace it. When the pad arrived it was tightly rolled in a box (see photo). How is this soft pad supposed to support the weight of someone sitting on it? As I wrote EA, the sleeper and frame are “great”, unless one sits on the sofa. Not a good thing... for a sofa. And certainly not good “manufacturing standards” for Ethan Allen.

Take the same color right across the cabinetry as well as the walls.... hmm... maybe same color you love on the walls, for cocoon room, could have same color over other room's furniture?? Befitting the soft, relaxed vibe, metallic accents are minimal, but apparent if you look for them, gently glimmering away; the cabinet handles, bronze lamp base and slim mirror frame add gentle gloss and polish to this peaceful room."
