Baronet and Copeland make some of their more expensive bedroom sets. I think the less expensive sets come from Asian factories. However, C&B only sells styles that other stores cannot buy. What is the reason you wanted to know the maker? Perhaps we can answer that question better.

Thanks for the response! I was just trying to reserach the quality of this particular set. Since I like the style, I was also wondering if other manufacturers made something similar so that I wasn't limited to just C&B. Sometimes I find that the C&B's and Pottery barn's of the world don't have the best prices for the quality. I also like the PB Farmhouse Collection but I don't want to spend that $$ for PB items when I can get a better made set. There have been several posts where people have debated the quality of PB compared to others i.e Stanley, Canadel etc.

To check on the quality, go into the store (or call) and ask them to compare the quality of this set to another set (pick one) they sell. Perhaps ask a couple of people. Let us know how that turns out. You can ask them also who makes it. I don't sell the brands they carry, but Copeland always struck me as very good quality, and Baronet as being good (but not as good). If they give the name of the factory, you can post it here for feedback.

Thank you for your response. I haven't been up to PB or called, but after exhaustive browsing (or exhausting browsing) I found a king canopy bed very similar in design to the PB Farmhouse bed. It is made by a company called Orville & Mead and is in their Dearborne Collection. This company is a subsidiary (or other business arrangement) of Durham Furniture. I talked to a sales rep at Boyles and got a quote of $1567 for the bed, $141 for the canopy, and $617 for a night stand. Free shipping if order exceeds $2K. O&R's site claims the piece is "solid maple" construction.

Frankly, I prefer the design of the PB piece, and certainly prefer the PB nightstand. But, PB describes the bed construction as follows: "Headboard, footboard and canopy are solid kiln-dried mahogany. Side rails are mahogany and mahogany veneer over MDF. MDF, a man-made fiberboard consisting of wood fibers and resin binders, is known for its strength and stability, and is commonly used as a base for veneers. It features uniform consistency with no knots, and while it has about the same density as medium-weight hardwood, it is structurally more stable. It won't crack, and finishes adhere well to it, which results in a smooth end coat. Kiln drying is a process that removes moisture from wood and ensures that it will not split, warp, crack or mildew. Platform-support slats are solid hardwood. Finished on all sides with multi-step hand-applied Espresso stain with lacquer finish."

MDF? for seventeen hundred bucks! The sad thing is we'll probably end up with this piece, because of the design.

Thanks you for the response and the link to the similar PB Bed.

I called C&B and they weren't able to tell me much. They did say that it was from Indonesia and made of mahogany, veneers and mdf. They told me that their vendor is PT Eastwind Miduri (spelling?) but when I tried to google it, nothing came up.

Kenneth - if you do end up calling PB, ask them if the bed rails are mdf. Here is a quote that I found when doing a search on this forum "the most important feature to check on any bed is the connection between the side rails and head and footboard (it should be substantial steel hardware) and what the side rails are made of. Veneer on solid wood is OK for the rails, on MDF is not." Not sure why but there are a lot of knowledgeable people here who may be able to answer that.

jyyanks - PB's own description says the side rails are veneer over MDF. I suspect the O&M product is higher quality.
