Please help!..suggestions for walk-out basement flooring

User

We're building a lakeside cottage (will eventually be retiring there)and cannot decide what to use for flooring in the walk-in basement/family room area.

The room is the first one people will enter when coming in from the lake, so it needs to be able to withstand moisture and some sand (that nixes hardwood and carpeting for sure.) There will be a small bathroom off this room as well.

The room will serve as a casual entertaining space. Right now we are planning to keep it as open as possible to be able to configure tables and chairs depending on the size of family gatherings. We anticipate folks (our kids' friends) might show up with air mattresses hoping to use the space for sleeping during the busy summer holidays, too.

Ceramic tile was our first thought. Then my husband mentioned doing some kind of colored or stamped concrete. I have heard lots of buzz about marmoleum tiles.

We're stumped. We're on a budget. Any suggestions? Thanks!
