No Mow Grass
Comments (9)Clover's not all that invasive in a reasonably well-maintained lawn. Rooting seems to be about as deep as grass, give or take, by the fact that it's hard to pull out. I wouldn't be surprised to learn they're 2" or 8", however, as I don't really know. The flowers will produce seed if pollinated and allowed to go to seed. Judicious mowing can slow that down, but a lot of clovers will throw low flowers that will seed regardless. You just cut off the tall ones. Don't place a barrier as it's going to interfere more with the grass and the water distribution than anything else. Your neighbors shouldn't slash your tires, I would think. If my next-door neighbor were to add clover, I'd find it attractive. I weed anyway, so pulling out clover instead of black medic or crabgrass would be just fine....See MoreAnyone tried Grow Camp Vegetable Grower?
Comments (3)I have the 4x8 grow camp and followed the book Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholemew as far as getting the proper soil (compost, vermiculite, manure mix). I started March 13 planting lettuce, spinach, herbs, carrots, onions, kale, endive. I'm harvesting lettuce, spinach, kale and endive. I put plants bought from Lowes of broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage and tomatoes. They are growing like crazy and I'm loving this grow camp. It is fun to put together and easy to use. The panels fold back to allow ventilations and the mesh keeps out bugs and animals. It's perfect for me. Will re-seed spinach, lettuce again soon. Looking forward to my heirloom "determinate" tomatoes....See MoreAnyone planning to camp at MTPS?
Comments (13)That would be awesome. I'm trying to borrow one. Might be able to from someone at work. Dunno though...I do have one plant i'm taking to the MTPS that is one of the 5 "Monster Cherry Tomato" plants I'm growing this year. They are the plants i'm most proud of this year & the best tomato plant i've grown in a while. I'd be happy to give it to anyone who'd loan me a tent & sleeping bag. =) It towering over 2 of the other tomato plants i'm bringing to the swap. It was planted 8 days after them, March 11th. Comments (6)We camped at the Davis Mountain State Park a couple of weeks ago. It has nice facilities. We went at the wrong time because it was too hot. The locals say to come in July or later when the rainy season sets in. There was plenty in the area to see and do. We toured Ft. Davis, saw the Marfa lights, did the scenic loop drive. There is an observatory that we didn't get to see because we missed the night, but we'll do that some other time. There is also a swimming area at Balmorhea (30 miles away) that is spring fed. DH and I don't primative camp now that we have kids. My preschoolers enjoyed hanging around the campsite and digging in the dirt. At night, the fireflies came out and we chased them. There were a lot of deer and birds hanging around camp. There were javalena warnings, but we didn't get to see any of them. The worst critter was probably the skunk some teenagers followed through our camp. If we ever find a good time to see Big Bend, we'll probably camp here again.
