Thank you for the responses! Meg - Your wood flooring looks great! We also have a very large baseboard and I didn't think it sounded right when the installer guy said that he would put in a white colored quarter round and then we could paint it to match the baseboard (off-white). I think it would look odd.... but he also said he didn't have any quarter round available that matches the flooring we like!! My husband said that he could take off the baseboard but that it might break so that we don't have to use any quarter round... But that's another huge project in and of itself! Especially if the baseboard breaks and it has to all be repurchased and repainted. We are putting laminates in all of our bedrooms, living room and dining room, so this is a LARGE project. Maybe I need to find a different installer who actually has the quarter round to match the flooring?? Thanks again everyone! Carrie

mwrede, I LOVE your floors and the stain your chose. I can't believe what a great price you got and if I lived in NC and not in expensive northern NJ, I would go for the exact same floor with the exact same company since it is beautiful, priced right and will be stable since it is quartersawn and rift white oak flooring. After my busy season, I will call Graff Bros. directly to see if they have a competitive price on stained engineered white oak rift and sawn flooring since I love the look but I need engineered due to the cement floor and the location of my home. I'm replacing all of the floors in my house, which currently has quarter round. I'm also replacing the baseboards with 51/4 baseboards and no quarter round. To me the quarter round is nothing more than a dust collector and the new baseboards will cover any gaps. Your pics look better w/o quarter round. If you have no gaps, I'd go w/o quarter round.

End panels look like laminate. Fine, if they are getting field applied decorative panels. Integrated decorative end panels are far preferred. These look unfinished. That by itself is also another big red flag. They haven’t been sanded enough. And do not have enough mils of whatever ENS is. And I’m familiar with a whole lot of finish coatings, and I never heard of that. But the biggest red flag was right there at the first. . ”he buys the doors from a factory”. You never end up with matching woods from boxes to doors to faceframes. Because none of it comes from anywhere close in geography. OK, I looked up ENS. It is not a cabinet coating. Its an exterior coating that looks similar to Thompson’s water seal. Totally unsuitable for hardwearing need to be stain resistant indoor cabinets. It doesn’t DO much of anything. Exterior ptofucts with mildewcides or fungicides should not be used indoors. Nor should they be adjacent to food prep surfaces.
