3/4 bed to twin bed
Comments (3)Well, it sounds as if part of what you've done is same I did (using slats to hold the mattress). I bought a fabric covered foam mattress, and on top of that added a 4" memory foam topper. But also cut the bed down the center horizontally, and cut off excess wood to bring it to a proportional twin size. Joined together with dowels. You can get a decent dowelling jig from Lee Valley Tools (online) and do this by hand. This bed was oak with vertical slats for head and footbed. Also raised the bed another 1 1/2" by cutting and adding chamfered square blocks under each of the legs. Bonus with the height: found several dresser-less oak drawers & put under bed for added storage, and the quarter-sawn oak and stain happened to match perfectly. It is also just the right height for a bedskirt. Hope something of this helps you out....See MoreGuest bedroom - converting 2 twins to a king bed?
Comments (12)I had posted this same question just a short time ago; in fact, at first I thought it was my post popping up again! I have two twin beds. I purchased the lambswool connector that goes between the two beds; it comes with a strap that surrounds and buckles around the beds. I placed a mattress cover over each bed first. Then placed the lambswool piece in the center and buckled it together. I then placed a king sized mattress cover over that. It works great and makes a wonderful king sized bed. Twin beds are actually five inches shorter than kings, but I didn't have any difficulty placing king sized sheets on the bed. I bought my "connector" on line at Comfort House. Comments (4)I have a split-king Sleep Number where the "twins" can be raised or lowered at both the head and the feet, with motion, too. So far, I've only purchased the Sleep Number fitted sheets because I bought several sets on sale. The Sleep Number brands have a separate extra band of elastic that stretches diagonally across each corner, in addition to fitted corners. Regular fitted sheets don't come with that band of elastic. However, if you have a sewing machine, you could attach your own band of elastic to non-SN fitted sheets. For sizing of the twin, you want Twin XL or Twin Long, depending on the wording of the brand of sheets. For top sheets, blankets, duvet covers, coverlets, etc. I buy regular King size from any store....See More2 Twins = 1 King (Bedroom)
Comments (11)I personally have this option right now. I call it the "poor man's King Size Bed". We have 2 Ikea twin mattresses side by side (no "topper"). There is a HUGE benefit to this system = no "movement" transfer from one partner to the other. The mattresses isolate the movement to one side of the bed. That means an active sleeper won't disrupt the other. We also find that we can pick and choose the mattress that is ideal for ourselves without worrying about compromising each other's comfort. The king "topper" - as comfortable as it is - will transfer movement from one mattress to the other. But it won't be as noticeable as a regular sized king mattress. If you like the topper than go for it. You might want to try out the twin mattresses alone...and then see if you wish to add the topper at a later date. That's the beauty of this system...it is extremely flexible. Good luck. I hope my experience helps. I will probably maintain this system for a very long time as the benefits far outweigh the occasional down-side....See Morerockmanor
