Lumber Liquidators Pine Flooring

I am in the process of building a log home. I want to install Clover Lea 3/4" X 6-7/8 New England Unfinished Natural plank flooring from Lumber Liquidators and using tongue oil as a finish. The price is good. Anybody else use this flooring?

I might go with the pre-finished... not sure

I did some research on the net on Lumber Liquidators... found tons of complaints about their flooring. I would never buy from them.

I bought 5" T&G unfinished "heart pine" (quotes because it's not the expensive antique stuff) from LL and was really quite pleased. The product was excellent, and at $2.50/SF I really can't complain. There were some complaints about service/delivery and other issues on some previous forums, but I went ahead anyhow and just tried to avoid problems. Don't get me wrong, they're not like a top dollar retail operation, but it is possible to do well with them.

LL "teak" is NOT actual botanical teak. Most flooring sold as "SomeCountry" teak isn't. Unless it's in the $100 a square foot range anyway. Real teak is an endangered species. SomeCountry teak can be any number of tropical species with no actual physical similarity to real teak other than a bit of a golden look to it. LL's reputation is most decidedly suspect on several counts, not just for renaming stuff anything they please. Be exceedingly wary of this faux teak product milled in China. Especially if it's actually cumaru. Lots of tropical hardwoods aren't allowed to be sufficiently dried before milling and end up warping, but cumaru is especially noted for having issues with this.

You can sand a portion out of the way like in a closet and then try a few different stains on the floor to see what they would look like. Have you tried to find and call the manufacturer? It looks like southern yellow pine but could be another similar species.

So the adhesive was LVT-Lock made by Bostik. This glue according to Bostik technical support has been modified and is now called LVT-Lock+, notice the PLUS. It curing time has been reduced. Also Bostik TS told me that LVT-Lock need oxygen to cure. The glue successfully used at our other 2 locations, Bostik VinylGrip90, adheres using pressure, again per Bostik Technical Support Dept. Below is the link for the floor tile. The installers on day 1, which we paid LL directly for, had a hard time with the glue curing. It took hours. Also this floor tile is tung and groove and very thick. Once it's put down, very little air if any is going to be able to help the glue continue to cure. Sorry is I was yelling. It's been over 1 year we've been dealing with this mess. Any experience with Duravana line of flooring from lumber liquidators?

As a builder, I have personally installed this type of flooring. In the beginning, I used ti have to use a tapping block and or a small piece of the flooring (as instructed per the directions). Now, Duravana/LL Flooring has a tapping block specifically designed for installing Duravana flooring. The chipping on the edges is usually from poor installation. ALSO, I have noticed that every so often, a board will have excess lamination over hanging the edge. If you don't lightly sand that down and try to install it as is, it will chip. Duravana is a fragile product until it has been properly installed. Also, I have noticed in several photos that were posted that the boards are not even fastened together properly which tells me that it was installed improperly. As another contractor stated in the comments, read the directions. I install Duravana floors often and have had no issues. Stop watching HGTV and ask a pro.

I found Clover Lea 3/4 X 6-7/8" New England Unfinished Natural for $1.19 sq ft

They also had unfinished 5" pine planks for 99 cents.
I will be doing about 700 square feet.

I emailed LL to find out if these boards are scored on the back and they said yes, but they guy in the LL store said some boards will be scored and some will not be scored.

I plan on blind nailing and face nailing.

The Clover Lea name is just LL's own label. I had some success getting good info by calling the main office in Williamsburg, VA and talking to various people there. I got pretty good info about the product. I also invested in having them mail samples. The cost goes towards purchase. The info I got from the local store was not very good at all.

My wife and I are planning our dream home(won't build for a few years) and I am either building a log home or an "old barn" home. I have been investigating flooring options for both. I have wanted to do pine and distress to look old. I saw the same product from LL and was curious. I have purchased bamboo floor from LL for our present home. WE LOVE IT! I think we avoided some problems because we picked it up from the outlet. I have also considered buying 3/4" pine from local lumber yard and milling myself. I would ship lap and cut relief cuts in bottom. I am going for a really unique/old/distressed look so I am not scared of flooring not looking perfect. Please post what you do and the results.
