Anyone have Kitchenaid Convection Micro? Anyone???
Comments (4)I do! I do! I have a 27" MW/convection (without the oven underneath). I can tell you the good and the bad about it. Mainly I bought it because it matched my KA slide-in range and DH would not let me get another conventional oven. To me, it is a really expensive toaster oven. Here's the bad: - the microwave is underpowered. 900W is less than my old OTR microwave. You will notice it's lack of power when you go to pop popcorn - it is extremely hard to clean the faux stainless steel interior. The ceiling of mw has gunk on it that I just can't get off. - one of my pet peeves - no button to turn the turntable off (maybe they've changed this since I bought mine). To put a 9x13 pan in there you have to physically dismantle the turntable to the pan will bang into the sides of the oven. The good: - it pre-heats really fast (much faster than a conventional oven). - comes in handy for baking frozen snacks for the kids (I would never cook any kind of meat in there though, because it is too hard to clean the interior walls. I have had a few service issues with it in the five years: The interior light burned out. Requires a service call to fix it! Costly light bulb replacement. The rod in the door hinge has busted two times. You know when this happens because you hear "snap" when the pull the door down and there is no longer any tension in the door. Let me know if you have any other questions....See MoreAnyone have macular degeneration or know anyone that does?
Comments (16)My DH has this. He is no longer able to drive. He is diabetic and went through a period of denial - quit taking his meds, etc. He neglected his eyes and this is the result of that. Had they caught it sooner, he would be able to see better. For now, he gets injections in his eyes and laser eye surgery. He has had several of each since the first of last year. He uses magnifying glasses all the time. We just keep them laying around everywhere. His eyes are both better than when he was first diagnosed. They aren't promising anything, but as long as he keeps having small improvements and they continue the treatment, we are thankful. Bad thing is that we were planning to retire early, but now we can't. I have to continue to work to get health insurance until I am 65. I have a heart condition and he has diabetes and the eye problem. We are both uninsurable for all practical purposes. That is what hurts both of us. We worked so hard saving to retire and having enough to do a lot of traveling. Now - who knows. But, you caught yours early, so you should be in good shape. Just be sure you go to the doctor often to have them checked....See MoreWould anyone have......and does anyone know?
Comments (4)Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade, but a word of warning for the unwary. Sounds great doesn't it? 10 different cultivars on one understock. Can I let you in on some practical aspects of these offers, made to entice those who often know little better than to part with their money. It is usual to put 2 buds onto a standard understock. One, to give a bit of insurance should one bud not take, and two, to provide a balanced head, given that the buds are implanted on opposite sides of the stock, one slightly below the other. Usually both take and to begin with we have an acceptably robust plant. However after a few years one of the scions (usually the lower) does better than the other, which eventually dies. The lower scion gradually expands to enclose the entire head of the understock, in effect starving the upper scion of nourishment, and it dies. Very rarely is it the other way around. If you apply this logic to stock budded up with 10 cultivars, it follows that in 10 years you will have a 3' standard of the lowest budded cultivar. In addition to this, the cultivars mentioned are not vigorous enough to make a balanced plant at 6' height. They do have names of popular and reliable cultivars to lure the punters. Iceberg and Bonica are OK at tops 4' height understocks, while 6' understocks are usually reserved for the weeping or procumbent cultivars, to give that much larger, weeping and/or umbrella form. Hey, but in the end it's your money....See MoreAnyone have quartzite installed that doesn’t have edge staining?
Comments (9)We do not have edge staining. The only place we notice any change in color is along the seam where our faucet is. And mostly when my MIL decides to wash dishes at the holidays. LOL. Our dish towels are nearby and I just wipe up any excess water. If water does get through the seam and discolors the stone, it dries within a day and it’s back to normal. No issues like what is reported here. Our quartzite was labeled as Mykonos... looks to be similar to a Macaubus. We’ve had it almost a year and a half. We seal it twice a year. Takes about an hour to do (more so with dry time between sealant applications), but I can easily multitask and do other things, honestly it is not a big deal at all....See Morenhyankee
