Fleas can survive soap and water?! I read that they drown in plain water. I already know I wasted my time washng everything. I guess they did live through it. I read about a trick to use where you take a candle and put it in a water dish. The fleas jump toward the heat and CO2 but land in the water and drown. I'm so deparate I was even going to try that, even though it sounded bizaar. What I don't understand either is that it seems to be the basment that is the worst. It is just a cement basement. No rec room, no carpeting, no curtains. I just was down there again for about one minute to spray again (again!) and when I came up the stairs my ankles and feet and calves were COVERED WITH THEM. It reminded me of that old commercial for Off Incect Repellant where the guy sticks his arm into a glass box filled with mosquitos and they all land on his arm. The worst thing about these fleas is that when you slap them, unlike mosquitos, they just spring right up and can't be crushed. I went into my little tool room in the basement, where I rarely go, and there was so much flea dirt that it looked like coffee grounds were scattered all over the table. I had to SWEEP flea dirt out of one of my closets in the guest room there was so much. Things stored in the basement are covered with flea dirt. All my stored canned goods and extra stuff stored under the basement stairs is covered with black specks. HOW????? I know it it flea dirt because when I try wipeing it with a paper towel the specks turn red. How could this have gotten this bad so fast like they just exploded all over. I hope that I don't have the fleas down there because of critters. :shudder: Critters are just about impossible to get rid of once they get in. There are a lot of skunks in the area, I just had one on my back steps a couple of weeks ago. I had to stand in my driveway until it decided to leave. I was hoping it wasn't going to go to sleep there for the night. Front door was locked. Possums too. Lots of rabbits and squirals My garage is overridden with field mice even though I have glue traps, snap traps and poison all set out. Nothing works on those critters. If they got in the house I don't know what I would do. I have to deal with the death of my dear cat Max. My anger at Hartz. And now this flea nightmare that is getting worse and worse. If I find a nest of critters I am going to go insane.

..... You cannot put an Amitraz-containing collar ON a cat- it will kill them..... I've only had experience with a kitty swallowing a section of the trimmed Preventic collar rather than having someone actually put it on the kitty. Well heck. That opens up a whole other tragic topic doesn't it? Pet owner who don't read the label or think that cats are just small dogs rather than a whole different species. If the lable clearly states: DO NOT USE ON CATS there's a valid reason for it! A few weeks ago there was a kitten who had a topical permethrin flea control for dogs product applied and within 10 minutes the kitten was having muscle fasciculations (severe twitching) and seizures. The product (forget the name right now) clearly stated NOT FOR USE ON CATS! We only had the oral anti-seizure medication recommended by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control on hand and *strongly* recommended the people go to the near-by emergency clinic for the injectable form. For the trip ... among a whole host of other things ... we gave a big slug of diazapam and told them this was a temporary fix until the kitty could get the other injectable. They took the kitten HOME! :*( We won't dispense the topical K-9 Advantix product to dog owners who also have cats just because one of the ingredients is permethrin. Should the dog's kitty friend rub up against the newly applied wet product the kitty is in real danger of seizure and death. Any way ... As Meghane stated ... These products are potentially harmful to the pet owner as well as the pets. The topicals and the collars are toxins in one form or other and hopefully people will not just blindly believe these are entirely harmless to their pets or themselves.

Arkansas girl: I was told same thing that it was only fake Soresto collars, so being a fool I listened to my vet and put the collar on my Bichon that I purchased from the vet. I diligently watched for any signs of an allergic reaction and after only 1 week I noted some serousanguinous drainage under my dogs collar. He has thick curley hair so I did not notice he had a severe reaction under his neck. When the vet shaved his neck the entire neck underneath was excoriated and swollen. Now my poor baby is miserable and on antibiotics and antihistamines. His breathing is rapid when he sleeps and I pray there is no internal damage. I immediately took the collars off of both my pets and threw these $160 worth of collars in the garbage. I am going back to vet today because swelling is still bad and my dog’s breathing is rapid when he sleeps. Do not use these if you love your pets. My Bichon had a very severe reaction and I personally wish I had listened to reviews and not Enlanco who I called nor my vet. EPA has multiple reports of deaths and should take these off the market. I am going to do my best to make sure they do!
