Can I share my proud mommy moment?

Today my 7 year old daughter and a group of her friends from her Daisy troop hosted a bake sale for a charity called Cookies for Kids' Cancer to raise money for funds for treatments for pediatric cancer. Last evening while we were preparing for the bake sale she turned to me and said, "Mommy, I want to donate all of my money I saved for my new bike to this because the kids with cancer need it more than I do. I can fit on my bike one more year."

She brought tears to my eyes. I am just so proud of her. Including my daughter's $47 we raised $352, which will be matched by my husband's company and my mother's company in NYC. For a total of over $1000.

And just for that, when the bake sale was done, she got a brand new bike courtesy of her very proud parents.

It's a Hoya carnosa Tricolor (Krimson Queen). As for care, as you guessed, it is not aquatic, and actually prefers to dry out a bit. Switch it to some well draining soil, such as a mix of bark, peat and perlite, or your preference. Allow it to dry out pretty well between waterings, such that the first couple of inches of medium are dry to the touch. Carnosas tolerate some drought. Give it high indirect light, an east or south exposure is ideal. Fertilize. Sacrifice an orchid to it once a month. Okay no not that last part. Thank you everyone. Yes, Vassar, this is he. My hope is that those involved will read the article and see just how wrong they were. He's a great guy. In a couple weeks we get to 'see' the baby! Her first ultrasound will be on 8/4...I ran in to the other Grandma last night at Costco and we're already planning shopping trips.

Thank you all so so much. I rarely brag about my children IRL. I don't want to bore anyone. Every child is special in their own way, I would never want anyone to feel like I am in some sort of competition. I see it happen all too often. I did however post it to my facebook, with the hopes of inspiring other parents to get involved in charity work with their children.
We will be hosting another bake sale with our town next month in honor of what would have been the little boy who was the inspiration for the charity's 7th birthday. He lost his 4 year battle to neuroblastoma just a few months ago. I am so blessed to have healthy beautiful children.

As far as I'm concerned, you can "brag" here anytime. I think it's important to let our kids know we are proud of them!
