Choice: Install Direct-Vent Gas or Pellet fireplace?

I am undecided between installing a natural gas direct-vent fireplace in living room (with gas line already installed) OR a direct-vent pellet fireplace. Natural gas cost is $1.03 per Ccf (100 cubic feet) + fixed $8.50 monthly customer service charge). Cost of wood pellets is from $150 to $170 a ton from local producer. My wife is opposed to wood burning units based on her recollections of an old type forced air woodburning log furnace. Having had 4 heart attacks I not inclined to carry 40 pound bags of wood pellets. We would like something that looks nice and that produces a lot of heat for the least costs and maximum convenience. We are interested, in either case, in top quality units from reliable manufacturers. Can you help us in making a decision? Could you share your recommendation of a particular brand name and model? THANKS!!
