My dad and I were discussing this the other day. The person with the greatest net worth isn't usually the one out there showing off the wealth.

Do we take note the panhandler in this scenario is the only one with actual assets in the plus column...

Has your son ever tried these mice? They are terrific, espeically the side buttons, flipping back through websites is nothing for me. My scroll bar is so fast even at 800 DPI...its unubelievable...and when I forget to put it in the charger...do I ever hate using the corded mouse until it recharges...everthing is just so easy even for mundane everyday web-browsing. As far as the dents in the MX518...that's where your fingers go and it allows a plyable left and right clicking, its like a mylar type of thing...he doesn't want any dents or lights? Low battery indicator is out? I wish that other MX1000 owner was still here...I've never make a mistake with the side buttons. In the beginning, I hit them a few times by mistake...its called learning, but not once in the last year and a half. Every time my cousin comes over here to play a game, and I tell him to left click ...he always clicks the wheel...he keeps looking for lines to tell him where right and left are. Then he gets used to the idea there are no visible left or right clicking lines, its the entire left or entire right side of the mouse whereever your fingers are comfortable. As far as the lights...they are LED lights and barely noticeable. That one poster said on the MX610 you can turn off the mail indicator ... they are like pinpricks of light...I forget to look at my battery indicators They are not that visible.. The Diamondback Plasma they are more visible...its an art thing and because they are LED they don't use much, if any, extra electricity. Why is your son insisting on archaic mice? Have you watched the little movie presentation? On the link below click on "Product Tour". You can turn features on or off with the software. The hardest thing to get used to is the size. They are larger, they require a bigger mouse pad, and lasers do better on flat light colored surfaces...but lasers will track fairly accurately on any surface. Are they ever sensitive to the slightest movement...but you get used to it...real quick. Instead of wide swings its a flick of your wrist. And believe it or not you even get used to holding the mouse without ever touching the buttons. The only drawback is the 2.4Ghz frequency and wireless routing...the one poster said even with that there was no interference with the mouse's performance...If you don't have a wireless router ...it might be a blast to learn with. That is a wonderful write-up. Thanks for taking the time to write it. We have a Viking cooktop and your observatoins match ours in using it for 7+ years. Alas, we don't have a grill so nothing to add here. We do have a portable infra-red grill we bought for our boat. And our experience matches yours. It is great for stakes but everything else will get torched from below, but no heat from above. They should call this steak grills and be done with it. BTW, we don't have the boat and never use it. FYI, we have a cermaic cooker now which we use for slow smoking (e.g. 12-18 hours). I have used it rain and shine including in snow. It will use only one single bag of charcoal for 24 hours. It has an automated controller for temps and I am able to manage it from the PC inside our house (through a program I have written). It is able to maintain its temp within 2% or even better! Not saying you should go that way but it is worth considering what you can do with an outside unit for at least slower cooks. You only have to put up with the weather when you load and unload it. And of course, it will create a BBQ which rivals or betters more restaurants. Again, much appreciate the feedback.

Before we talk about brands and products at all, which contractor examined the ductwork (size, returns, supplies, etc.) and performed a Manual J load calculation to determine sizing? You cannot go by square footage or guess or you may sacrifice your comfort. Carrier vs. Lennox? Can't go wrong with either one in my opinion. Please provide the model numbers for the indoor units. Variable speed is definitely worth it in my book. Also, I am highly doubtful of those SEER and HSPF ratings that you posted. They almost sound like those "up to" values. I can confirm them for you on ARI's directory. What thermostat? If not going with the Infinity, I would certainly go with the Honeywell VisionPRO IAQ and have it set up to control the dual fuel system and dehumidify on demand (with variable-speed blower).

Which pool builder do you prefer? (either based on intuition, reviews, previous work). A great pool builder can build any pool you want and work with you to make smart $ choices. You may want to rank a list of pool features. It sounds like you have not finalized the desired design yet. Regarding budget, no matter how hard we tried, along the way we made decisions to upgrade materials or change the design (through "change orders"). So the initial contract price for the pool was definitely not what the final expenses were and we went way overbudget! So we're staycationing and eating beans! The most overlooked feature is the decking. There are tons of options with different costs of this area also. I'm a little nervous about builder 1 after reading SwimmingPoolSteve's comment. Could you work with builder 2 to bring down the costs in other ways? Good luck!

HOW TO DETERMINE IF YOU'RE WEALTHY

Whatever your age, whatever your income, how much should you be worth right now? From years of surveying various high-income/high-net worth people, we have developed several multivariate-based wealth equations. A simple rule of thumb, however, is more than adequate in computing one's expected net worth.

Multiply your age times your realized pretax annual household income from all sources except inheritances. Divide by ten. This, less any inherited wealth, is what your net worth should be.

Hi Dreamgarden,

I'm perplexed by the Stanley/Danko team in that they even TRY to define the arbitrary term of "wealthy" as though it has any significance as a label at all (ESPECIALLY in light of the apparent message of their Millionaire Next Door book.)

After all, who gives a rat'sass if you meet their "definition" yet run out of income or spendable funds before you run out of heartbeats?

I personally prefer "financially independent" as a measuring stick, and its far more simple and intuitive to know if you make it or not;

A) How much would you need as an annual budget TODAY for your preferred lifestyle if you lived the way you wanted to from this point forward (and not the way you were "required to" in order to afford to survive)?

B) Do you have enough passive income (see "A") from your relatively safe assets so that you can live that way today? If so, congratulations, your are Financially Independent!

IF NOT;
C) Given the excess income you currently receive above your actual costs of living, how long until you DO accumulate enough to achieve #A?

D) Factor inflation into your future spending budget needs as you cast forward into the future... you'll need more spendable money tomorrow than you would have needed today, so your income-producing assets will need to be larger tomorrow than they would have needed to be today in order to give you financial Independence.

I think the Stanley/Danko formula is deceptive. In applying their "wealthy" formula to myself, as an example, I am apparently "super-DUPER wealthy".... but this is arbitrary & beyond silly, in my opinion. It doesn't determine that I have sufficient working assets to achieve independence; the ability to truly live my life in the style I have chosen without the need to be employed.

I'd hate to have people "drop their guard" based on the Stanley/Danko formula merely to "feel good" about some social label, and miserably regret it in their senior years when its far too late to achieve (and enjoy) true independence.

Maybe I'm overly sensitive about this, given I deal with people so emotionally wrapped up in it... but I *HATE* the idea of setting arbitrary social labels as financial outcomes.

What ever happened to net worth being your assets minus your liabilities?

Using that forumula, we're 'worth' less than half the market value of our holdings.

From the looks of the illustration ... I think that I'd better become a panhandler (the only one with any assets).

In Summer, in this area. Sometimes in Spring and Fall ... depending on the weather.

Don't try being homeless in winter, in this area, though!
