Comments (52)Classic Leather is also handmade in NC. Classic uses a mixture of hardwoods not all of their frames are solid and not all of their frames are true 8-way hand-tied, it depends on the style. Bradington Young is more economical because they use a multiply laminated hardwood frame in place of the solid knot free kiln dried hardwood frames used by Leathercraft. Bradington Young is now a division of Hooker Furniture rather than a family owned business like both Classic and Leathercraft are. Both Classic and leathercraft cater to a higher end customer, they are both willing to make custom changes on all their products within reason. Bradington Young is more main stream they cater more to the masses, they do not like to change up patterns and such but are willing to make subtle changes to their frames like adding or deleting nail trim and they do offer seating or cushion options like both Leathercraft and Classic. All three of these manufactures are based in North Carolina and build outstanding products and yes we do sell all three brands at our store that is why I can comment on this topic as an expert because we are a leather specialty company and my experience comes from years of working with these exceptional leather furniture manufactures....See MoreFurniture 101 : Q&A
Comments (103)Chris2009_2009, I'll try to answer your question though I'm not an expert by any means. Sounds like instead of 8 way hand tied springs, coil springs, s-springs, blue steel springs the furniture you are looking at has rubber webs to hold the cushions up. I may be wrong here but my best guess is check out an upholstered dining/kitchen chair, usually they have a webbing underneath them to hold the upholstered seating in place and give support. Of course the furniture could just be rubber/vinyl strips going from front to back or side to side like a lawn chair....See MoreList of recommended furniture brands in all price ranges
Comments (58)I know this thread is really old, but can anyone comment on Franklin Furniture? Made in Houston, MS. We just purchased a sectional sofa from them with power recliners, lights, and massage/vibrating chairs. It will be delivered in 9 days and we have 30 days to return it for a refund. I'm usually a big researcher and am kind of freaking out now because I didn't do my homework and know nothing about Franklin. The salesman assured us it was a good quality, in line with Lazy Boy - but really, what is he going to say? This stuff is junk?? Can anyone put my mind at ease?...See MoreWho manufactures the best recliner? Help!
Comments (31)That's what worries me; the mechanisms are often made in China. Not just for recliners, but even for the hinges and drawer mechanisms on case goods, kitchen cabinets, etc. Barcalounger announced a few years ago that they were introducing one domestically made line, but I would bet that that one might cost a lot more than the others. About 15 years ago, I bought a leather recliner from Crate and Barrel. I paid in the $700 range. The chair still looks good and remains very comfortable. Unfortunately, very soon after it arrived, the mechanism for the chair gouged tears in the rug underneath. We did not notice immediately and by the time we did, the rug had been torn in two places. The repair was very pricey. Now the chair has to sit on a doormat, which does not look very good in the room. I can only imagine that the mechanism is defective in some way, or that inferior design allowed for that to occur....See More- 10 years ago
