Questions: Breville Smart Oven 800XL

I got one!!! I used my BB&Y 20% off coupon, some Christmas returns, and also returned an expensive Cuisinart Coffee Pot that did not fit under my cabinets that I had for a very long time, I am embarrassed to say...and thought what the heck, maybe they would give me a store credit-it was in the original box, receipt and bag. They didn't blink an eye. So, I justified an expensive treat for me and only paid $109 out of pocket for this toaster oven.

My question for those who have used it- how do you add additional time after it shuts off without it starting back in the preheat mode?

I made a pizza (fresh-not frozen), I wanted to cook it an additional 1 min - but it went into preheat mode.

Also has anyone ordered the cutting board that sits on the top? Opinions?

So far, I love this oven, except for the wire rack that does not

have a "stop"on it to prevent it from pulling out way too quickly - a problem with hot, heavy food.

Good job on the price!! I selected a damaged box and got a discount then used my BB&B coupon and a gift card.

The wire rack that does not have a "stop"on it to prevent it from pulling out way too quickly - a problem with hot, heavy food.
Ditto this! I loved the magnetic pullout feature but was taken by surprise to discover this, thankfully without mishap.

How do you add additional time after it shuts off?
Turn the temp dial (bottom one) to the desired temp to override the pre-programmed temp.

Cutting board.
I ordered the cutting board so I could use the top to store my FoodSaver and wanted it as a heat shield...an expensive heat shield! Before ordering the board from Breville, I looked all over the net and in stores to find a cheaper one that would fit with no luck. It fits perfectly and the nice little silicone feet have protected the FoodSaver so far. I do use the top without the board as suggested to keep foods and plates warm.

Bottomline: Probably what I like most is the size. It fits in the space where I had the other Cuisinart TO while accommodating larger pans which opens up whole new options.

My Cuisinart was great, what's not to like about it. If I had to pay full price and if I wasn't so compelled to "upgrade" all the time I would have had no reason to get the Breville.

I am thinking of ordering the cutting board. Since you already looked for one, I'll save the effort and order from Breville. I need the heat shield aspect of it also, my wood cabinets are pretty close to the top.
I am using it alot and I've only had it a week. I made spaghetti squash in it - it almost didn't fit - so that's a note to me not to buy fat ones ~LOL.
I made delicious Pork chops stuffed with Feta and Spinach (I posted the recipe on the new recipes for Feb thread.) Also 2 pizzas, tonight I made a chicken dinner, then roasted asparagus while the chicken was resting.
That darn wire rack got me again, when I pulled it out to turn the chicken. Almost lost the dinner - a few more times, and I should learn to be very careful.
Overall, it is great. I also warm my plates on top. It is cold here, so we always have to warm our plates.
Thanks for mentioning that you got yours - that made me think about using the BB&B coupon and the stuff that needed to be returned.
I also suffer from 'upgrade disease'.

I just bought this oven last week and so far it's great. I've used it to toast, bake and keep things warm. The nice thing about using it as an oven is that it preheats very quickly (as opposed to a larger oven). Its controls are also very easy to figure out. It's definitely more than just a toaster oven and in a different league from the Black & Decker toaster oven that it replaced....

I had almost the same issue with a Breville panini grill...The handle broke when the kids dropped it, which I was completely honest about and I'd wanted to buy a new part...But they sent a whole new grill and it was a much better one. I'd bought the original for $20 on Ebay, and they didn't care. But I'd check with Breville on this one. They always seemed to answer emails quite quickly.

We have ours on a wood counter against a cabinet side and haven't had an issue with heat, but the plug is a PITA. I had intended to plug it in behind the oven, but the size of the plug made this completely infeasible. (We tried it every which way, too, with power strips and the like...no dice!) So instead it's draped across the counter---not exactly ideal, but in the end it was workable. Had we realized this in advance, I would have looked at recessing the outlet or otherwise doing something creative with it...ah well. We have several Breville appliances, and while I love the performance on them all, they all have the same stupid plugs which are really difficult to put anything in front of. Also, on the toasting front---not sure this will help on the large oven, but on the compact oven, the difference between toasting on the lowest oven rack position and toasting on the middle "toast" position is night and day. Toast on the middle setting is browned nicely in a few minutes, whereas on the low setting where we generally leave the rack for baking, it's painfully slow and browns the sides unevenly. So...even though it's a pain, I've gotten into the habit of moving the rack before toasting, and it's solved that problem. (The large oven may be a different beast, though!)
