Any solutions to this? I am having this problem too - the tiles just above the fireplace center are falling off (have repaired once to have it happen again). I suspect the high heat rising up and out the top of the fireplace is causing the wall to expand and contract slightly so that it weakens the mortar and the tiles fall off. Is that possible? Is there a special high heat mortar/mastic? The fireplace manufacturer said: The area above the fireplace will get warm, warm enough that you may not want to touch. It is still safe as the area can reach temps of 325 degrees and still be safe. On the tile coming off, [fireplace co] has not had issues like this before. Please make sure that the area of “non combustible” around the fireplace was properly faced over with a non combustible facing and your tile person is using a mastic that will work in high heat areas.

State of the art technology is direct vent. It is very safe and energy efficient. The appearance of the flame is a matter of opinion. We are happy with ours, but if you're really wedded to big dancing flames, you might be disappointed. The only way to decide what is right for you is to go to a dealer who has about a dozen systems on display, so you can see what they look like. The other thing to consider is that the competence and honesty of the installer is of the utmost importance. These are complicated installations that require care and attention to detail. the challenge is finding someone who is really trustworthy. You need to ask around and get recommendations from people who have dealt with the installer you are considering.

oh i am so jealous!! i want a brick corner fireplace in my bdrm so much! i want a more traditional look,the one you like is more western in feel to me. i think the hood may work,,but you could make a huge change just by painting the brick first. i might also paint the beams on the ceiling,not sure without seeing more of the room.

Wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of stone this is? Our home is 1963 ranch with daylight basement. It's time for an upgrade or two. We are adding a gas line for our fireplace which is currently housing wine. No more of that please. We are looking forward to using our fireplace for it's intention. Thoughts of painting over stone have been met with harsh NO's! We are learning to embrace it but I don't love the pinkish, beige tones. Thoughts on a sleek, clean lines style fireplace? And possible replacement of the beige floor inlay? Need ideas and inspiration...Thank you in advance!
