On Valentine's weekend my BF took me to a great steak house. There, I had an out-of-this-world Cesaer salad with the most heavenly croutons! The croutons were medium size, lightly toasted and they melted in your mouth!
My BF said if I could make croutons like that, he'd marry me. (It's kind of a joke between us, we've been together a long, long time.) This time I might have to take him up on the offer though, because I lost my job and now I need the medical ins.
Anyway, I've been making a lot of bread in my new (used) bread machine. A french bread recipe from the manual makes the softest bread I've ever eaten. So, I think I'll have the bread I need to make the croutons. I'm planning to spray them with some spray butter and very lightly toast them. (Eventually make herb and garlic ones too.)
What I'm looking for is a good way to make the cubes with an extremely soft bread. I could swear I saw a hint from somebody here somewhere with what sounded like a really good idea for cubing bread when making croutons.
Does anyone have a method or idea to help me?
