NC furniture stores to shop

What are the must visit stores in NC for furniture?

Currently, we are looking for living room furniture. We like the styles of Crate & Barrel Kavari media console, Hunter trunk and the Huntley Woods leather sofa. We are also fans of Thomasville furniture (but not fans of the price).

I know of a very good factory outlet store in High Point (one of the last of the true factory outlet stores) that specializes in 2 categories of living room furniture: sofas that fit through narrow doors and stairways, and hard-to-find small size sofas. Since this store is not a major name brand, I have been told that mentioning the name on this forum is considered spam.

I am not a fan of Furnitureland South. We purchased two Drexel wingback chairs and when they arrived, the fabric on the chairs was not what we ordered based on the sample fabric I selected. Unfortunately I did not take a piece of that sample (it was not offered or available) with me. My husband didn't want to hire an attorney so I've had these two chairs with the wrong color for several years. It was a bad experience (including a sleazy salesman who never returned my calls). On a second trip we purchased furniture from Boylan but I think they're no longer in business which is too bad. If you buy upholstered furniture, be sure to take a piece of your selected fabric!

I purchased a Louis Phillippe bedroom set from National Mt. Airy about 10 years ago. Just before delivery of the furniture, I was told that they were being bought out by Bassett. The sales person I was working with told me that Bassett was not nearly as good quality as National Mt. Airy and that their customer service was lacking. (BTW, I would only rate National Mt. Airy as mid-level to begin with). Also - I agree with belle_va in that they only sell direct from their own stores and not through NC - sames as say Ethan Allen. About two or three years ago, I visited a Bassett Direct store to see if they had a sleigh bed similar to my National Mt. Airy. I have a queen and was considering changing to a King. When I compared their furniture to NMA, I agree, it didn't even come close in quality and construction.

High Point or Hickory when shopping furniture in NC

I just came back from a 4 day jaunt to Hickory Furniture Mart. This is my 4th time there. I've never been to High Point. I like Hickory Mart because everything is under one roof. You can stay at the Holiday Inn next door and just walk to the Mart (2 minutes) and go back to your hotel room whenever you want. I would like to go to High Point one day just to see what is there. Maybe if someone else does the driving :-)

NC Stores with biggest selection

I'll be heading through the Hickory/High Point area and need a new upholstered sofa and some coordinating chairs. I'll have my husband and children so I'll have to be super efficient while I'm doing my shopping. My taste runs pretty simple/traditional. Any recommendations of one or two stores that have a large selection of floor samples of upholstered goods? I'll be price shopping after I find what I like, so customer service issues of a particular store are not a big concern.

Priba Furniture Store Greensboro, NC???

Hi evcm - My sister just bought a house in Pinehurst, NC and has been raving about Priba! She and her husband loved it since they could buy right off the floor rather than wait 8-12 weeks. Who can resist instant decorating gratification! So, just 5 weeks ago, I got on a plane in Baltimore, flew to Raleigh, and went to visit her. We stopped in High Point and saw the amazing Furnitureland South (1,000,000 sq. ft.!!), Roses, Boyles, and then went to Priba. It is a nice-sized store with plenty to look at. I primarily went because my sister told me that they had Tommy Bahama furniture (Lexington) as well as a lot of other name brands. I think it is worth your while to go - especially if you live close. Have fun!

That sounds like such a horrible experience! Here's an answer for everyone else. I suppose you can always go to see furniture in NC, since their showrooms are so big, but this is what I've found and heard from my friends:

Go to the store, sit in the furniture. Just make sure when you're in the store to write down the EXACT furniture brand, model numbers, and/or fabrics.

Then go home & shop around online. You can Google the name brand, make some calls & buy. Google is especially great when you're looking to buy name brands. If I'm buying something small, I usually don't care... but you can save SO much $ on furniture and other big purchases. Not to mention you can often get free shipping, no sales tax deals.

Have fun looking for those great deals online. :)

Hi laura11106! I am dying to know the outlet you know. I am right outside of High Point. When people ask me, I have to tell them there is really not many good places to go anymore. It is sad...
