Looking for a plasma TV console that isn't too low.

We mounted our plasma TV but couldn't get the wires down very low because there was a horizontal stud in the wall. So now we need a higher console - most are 28 inches or so - we're looking for something that is 32 inches high to cover those wires...does anyone have any ideas of where to look? We'd like something black/distressed, but simple lines - not mod looking...love this one from Thomasville in black, but it's so much money!

I just bought a sofa table with drawers and an extra shelf for my plasma and electronics. Think it really looks good in the room as it isn't the normal "electronic" storage and works well with the other furniture. Also because it wasn't considered a TV console the price was half.

The one you like is very similar to a buffet, etc. which could be a lot less expensive. Their height would also be the 32 you need. Just check the depth and openings to make sure your equipment would fit.

There are a lot of furniture sales going on right now....good time to have fun looking and finding a great price.

I have one we sell that fits your description. Handcrafted in the USA of solid woods but it may be more that you care to spend as its made quite a bit better than Thomasville.

The doors are bi-folds and the height is 32" h, 55"w, 20" D. We do the accent wood in either tiger maple or cherry (photo in link is in tiger maple). Price is $ 1,320 as shown, or in all-black its $ 1,031. Shipping additional. Email dcollie@keepingroom.com if you would like contact info.

It's called SPACE. Living in the Silicon Valley, in a $800,000 home that is 1536 ft^2 provides no room for a big hunk of junk, especially in the master bedroom, which is a spacious 12x16'. We have 4 tv's, but only 2 are LCD's so far. The only reason that the MBR still looks terrible is because of that black 33" CRT monster TV in the corner. Is is the focal point-even after spending all the $$ we did on our mid-century modern furniture. I do agree w you re wall mounts. They usually don't work (structurally hard on the house and require absolutely perfect installation and hiding of cords) - but you still have to show the DVD player and DirecTV/Tivo unit, so there's no escaping that - and there in lies the problem. The stand. For me, its all about the dang stands. They all look so terrible. Home entiertainment cabinets are gawd awful unless you live in a country cottage style house (we don't), but the other extreme is just as bad: glass and metal. So in the bank the $$$ sits until I find the right stand for the Master BR - too bad, as that's where I watch the majority of my DVD's - mostly classics and lots of B&W remasters of film noir and Hitchcock. We are up to 400+ now and do not use the TV's for anything else but cable news and DVD's. L

Now that you will have the big TV, be sure to get a Sony Playstation 3 to go with it. I don't have the 1st game for mine...use it for it's Blue-Ray player, the wireless Internet capability (if you have a wireless router in your home), the ability to use the PS3 to display my photos onscreen and produce an instant print of one (you need one of several Epson printers it supports to do this), play my mp3 collection, and just having a cool-looking device next to the TV,.

We used my mom's old buffet and had the tv mounted on the wall. We love it. There is a hole there to fit a bunch of wires, but they are threaded through a pipe similar to pvc. I know I will always want to hang something on that wall so it would always be covered in case we change the arrangement. It is a small price to pay to make all those wires disappear, imo. We also kept the box outside so we could use the remote, although you can get a device that makes the remote work through the solid door. It just doesn't bother us that much, but maybe we'll get around to that someday. I'm still working on ideas for the wall space around the tv, and may recover the chair on the right in the print fabric lying on it. In other words, still tweaking the space but the TV is a big hit, and I love the wall mounted look. Much cleaner, and most of the TV stands had a more modern look that I didn't like with the rest of my stuff. You'll love your tv!

No plasma here yet, but I do use a vintage oak buffet for our TV stand. Here's a photo from today...the kitty was having a cozy nap. Sigh...what is it about photos that make all the 'stuff' show up more??? Gotta figure out what to do with some of that 'stuff' on the floor...except for the big fossil. That's too cool....or maybe it needs a table to go on. Anyway, the buffet works for us...hides lots of components.

tracyg Ballard deigns has 2 black tv consoles. One is 30 1/2 high and the other is 34 high. I don't know about the durablity of Ballard's furniture but I have debating on these two consoles for a couple months. I am also looking for a black console. I love the clifton console(30 1/2)because it is rubbed black but I like the size of the Garraux console. I will check the Thomasville. Let me know what you decide. Paddytc

Thanks all - I found a Sligh one I love and I really like the Ballard Clifton one too (esp. since I'm looking for bookcases too). But the Ballard one is pine, and I'm wondering how it will hold up...
