As a few of you may know. I am a new garden junkie. I just love it despite struggling with my 10 years of weed and brush growth. I have stared with nothing and now have high hopes an the little ones I have planted. People have so very generously given me lots of things. I have still some how managed to break the bank on my yard. Soil amending, 2 failed grass seeding attempts, irritable sales on discounted plants.. I am rambling. My husband kids that it would be cheaper if I where addicted to cocaine and I remind myself that there will be no garden to enjoy if the mortgage is not paid. Anyway what I guess I am trying to say is that I am dedicated to gardening and though I may not have any plants to bring this year I am excited about coming I hope to bring many plants next year. I would very much like to talk to other about gardening. (my husband smiles and nods) If anyone has any extra plants that will tolerate shade/part shade well I would just love them. Hi All, I spent most of today planting stuff. I still have more to plant!!! I did take a pic of behind the garage. I have to download my photos though. I'll post a post about it later. Then I've been making seed envelopes. I have made so many and I have so many more to go! I woke up this morning in a flutter and realized it was Saturday after thinking, for fifteen minutes, that it was Monday. I have completely disconnected from all concept of time. I never leave the house. The plants are beginning to talk about me. I am building a fortress out of toilet paper and canned peas in the cellar. My artwork is becoming dark and twisted and painted with my own blood. I understand completely. Ivan--Toronto, thank you! That pins it down. Yes, that's called a dormant seed and you can do that. It's the equivalent of a really early spring seeding and about as effective. It works best in areas where winters are long and consistent, so it should work pretty well for you. It's chancy in Pennsylvania, where winter is an on-and-off sort of thing and a February warm snap can start it growing. Our warm snaps are frequently T-shirt weather. Just make sure that the seed goes down after soil temperatures have dropped well under fifty (well under 10 C) in your area, with no chance of spiking back above that for any length of time during the season. A quick perusal does show an irregular winter pattern in your area, so you can also get the soil in place, and drop the seed just before winter really sets in. That's not a problem and the seed won't wash away. It likes snowfall, so putting it down before the major winter blanket of snow sets in is also great. The third option is to seed just as winter starts to let up and soil temperatures just start to rise above freezing. So basically, just as the soil is warming and the snow melts off, seed then. It's still a dormant seeding, but at the other end of winter. All of those work.

My Goodness, lots of drama. @Kelly M That was one of the (many) times I struggled to keep my patience in check, because you really are at their mercy... @pgjs Oh, I am so sorry about the ceiling wood. I hate that for you. @2rickies I swear that one day when I ran to the store, I returned to discover, Kyra Sedgewick wandering through my build. We are so far into it that I'm not sure why she thought it was fine--you'd think the barking dog upstairs would have clued her in that it's nearly a "home.". She meant to go to the build two doors down, looking for the architect. Whether or not it was really Kevin Bacon's wife, I don't know, but good lord, if it wasn't, she sure has a double. And no, I didn't act goofy and star struck and get a picture. She just apologized profusely when I found her walking out, and complimented me on the house and we chatted about the community. My feeling is...I wander through builds, especially if I know they are investment properties, but once the doorknob and finishes arrive, I don't go in. I feel others should afford me the same respect. I know people like to see how it's all being crafted and pulling together, so I don't mind. If it makes people uncomfortable, they can post no trespassing signs. I don't ignore those. When we bought the house we currently live in, the former owner just walked in one day to see what renovations we were making. I had never met her. Then I discovered she was still using our mailbox and address for nearly a year. I was constantly returning her mail to the postman. I then caught her checking my post for some government check delivered to her, so eventually I had to call the DMV and post office to force her to change her address.. @Liz888 Yes, the build goes so slowly sometimes. I had a melt down last week, because we are only a few projects from our C.O. at this point. I want to be able to start moving in some of the "extra" furniture and projects I've accumulated. (We are not moving into beach house til we retire, so I've been collecting deals and they are cluttering up my home.) But to avoid hiring movers twice, Dh decided we needed to move everything in before Thanksgiving and live with bare bones in our current home... so more than just the extra stuff---everything must go down. I was not prepared for that, not for the speed nor the idea of an empty current home... SO then because I freaked out, he did a 180 and decided to slow down--he gave our builder/helper a few weeks off... Now I have no idea when the CO will happen. But at least the porch rails got painted!
