A chuckle from my 3 yr old Grandson

We're trying to get him potty trained and he can't go to pre-school in September if he's not potty trained.

He really wants to go and is very excited about it.

Well, while changing him once again, I reminded him that he wouldn't be able to go if he didn't keep his big boy pants clean and dry. I told him that he'd be kicked out of school if he soiled himself.

He wanted to know who would kick him out and I told him the the teacher would ask him to leave.

He looked at me with his big eyes, and sadly asked,

"Why, Nana? Her doesn't love me?"

My heart melted right then and there.

Aaaaahhhhhhhh!

Something similar happened last night w/ our 3 1/2yr old. He's been potty trained since about 3 but regressed the past 3wks and has pooped in his underwear. Since talking wasn't helping I went out and bought 3 more of his favorite Monster shirts (a different one for each day) and hung them up in the LR. I told him I was holding them hostage and each week he went w/o pooping he could pick one out.

All wknd. he kept walking past them telling them how he was 'I GOING TO URN MY MONTAH HERT BACK!' (he has no volume control).

So last night DS1 (the one that threw the rock and has been grounded) was very good in all ways and manners last night for DH. DS2 overheard DH telling DS1 that he noticed how attentive he was and did everything asked right away and that he really appreciated it.

So DS2 pipes in "YOU LIKE ME TOO DADDY?! I DIDN'T POOP IN MY HANTIES FAH A WHOLE WEEK! I A GOOD BOY!"

Love 'em to pieces!

He woke up to a monster shirt today.

I have a 6 year old grandson who lives with me, and summer can be a trying time! I have picked a theme for each week. Example: Paper week: doing origami, researching the pulp and paper industry on the net or betteryet, at the library, making ojects out of paper mache, visiting the local newpaper for a tour, and possibly going to a pulp and paper mill in a nearby town. Music week: playing the piano (he already takes lessons), trying to play the same song on the guitar, making a poster with the clefs, staff, and names of the notes on the lines and spaces; taking in free band concert at our local park, harvesting the garlic whose variety is :music"; packing up some the the garlic and goinhg to visit his music teacher who doesn't teach in the summer. Cooking week: learning about measuring cups and spoons, how to read a recipe, doing a cookie marathon including a gingerbread house, visiting alocal bakery for a tour, doing a make-your-own-pizza night with doungh from the bread machine that he will make, and then everyone can add ther own toppings; we are also doing a "get ready for the fair" week where together we will prepare an entry for just about evey class that he is eleigble for, take our bikes to the fair grounds to register, take our entries in on the appropriate day, and, of course, go to the fair. He will be pretty well ready to go back to school, and I will be pretty well ready to have him go! We DO have a l;ot of fun.

Threats NEVER work with kids, ACTIONS work. Children of 3 are pretty stubborn, but #1 they are NOT smarter than the parent, and #2 they are not in charge, YOU are (You are the parent after all. You tell the child to do something once (ONE command, not ..pick up your room, make your bed and get dressed, they won't "hear" all of that), and it has to be "fairly" simple, and the expectations on your part have to be fairly simple. Get dressed. When you're dressed we will have breakfast. Now follow through. Temper tantrum. So what, go on with your life, but NO BREAKFAST until she's dressed. Do NOT hit your sister or you WILL sit on the naughty spot for 3 minutes. You hit your sister, you will now sit in the naughty spot for 3 minutes (and you keep putting her on it and re-starting the timer until she is on for 3 minutes), Yes the first 3-5 times will he hell, but it will get better when she realizes YOU are in charge, not her. Thank you all for your comments. The kids these days are hard to impress. That's why I like to create something that no one else has. Hopefully that way he will remember that Grand-ma made it for me. His first comment was..."does it walk?" His Great-Grand-ma said.."Only if you make him Hon" haha. The older grand-kids want money but the little ones are still fun to make something for.

Biting is common among toddlers, but I know it's disturbing to parents and caregivers. Have you or the parents met with the daycare to troubleshoot the problem? I can imagine when it happens: struggling over a toy. Maybe he needs individual supervision at daycare to head off a biting incident. Could you go a time or two to help out and watch over your grandson? You might be able to observe frustration building and intercede before a bite takes place. A 2-minute time out doesn't seem like much, even for a 2 year old. Do an internet search; there is a lot of info about biting toddlers. Best wishes.

What a sweet face.

I will never forget Thanksgiving dinner at my sis' house when my son was around 5. He had potty issues, think he was afraid of falling in because his hiny was so tiny. He would not let go of seat to wipe. He excused himself to use the potty during dinner. Then we heard "Mommy, come wipe me". That was 4 yrs ago and family still jokes when we sit down for holiday meals.

He has AMAZING brown eyes. They are the exact color of a Hershey bar! The most perfect chocolate brown eyes I have ever seen on a kid. Such a cutie-pie, mona!

What is it about those grandbabies that have captured our hearts? Kids that age see everything in black and white. lol.

I watch my grandson tomorrow, I've been sick the past three weeks so I haven't been around him. My DIL told me that if he misbehaves, like jumps on the sofa and won't stop, that he gets a minute and a half time out in his playpen in the dining room. Apparently they get a minute per year.

I told her I'd really really try to give him the time out but not to count on it. :)

Shannon, I was the exact same way. For some reason I can remember sitting on the potty hollering for someone to come clean my bottom. I was literally petrified of the toilet!
