Christmas gift from ole joyful

Actually, it's a retread of the one that I've offered around here for the past four or so years.

But it's to be found over at the Kitchen Table forum, back around page 8 or 10 by now, I think, as it was dated around the day before Christmas or so.

And not many replies, so didn't get dragged back to the top much.

For those of you who've seen it before, there's an addition this year that some of you might find interesting.

It's claim is that it should save practitioners hundreds, more likely thousands, during their lifetime (unless they're old crocks like me).

Maybe I'll go over there and retread it (again!).

I've offered a Christmas "gift" (message) on these forums for several years.

This year I wrote it on a thread over on the Kitchen Table forum, about Christmas Day, so it'll be about page 8 or 10 now, as there are several pages per day written over there.

If you follow my suggestion, it should save you hundreds of dollars over a number of years, if you use it well.

Hi again, all. I fixed the car - I've spent more on it in the past year than I paid for it 7 1/2 years ago but I've put over 100,000 miles on it, with not a lot of repairs through those years, so am happy with it. Still going to old step-uncle's place, but place has been sold and new owner willing to have me live there, as he only wants to use the land. If anyone has any questions about the system that I outlined above - ask here or email me. I think that you'll find it a very useful resource. One of my New Year's resolutions is to get a more flexible computer - with more storage, as I can't put more modern operating systems on mine (so have been using the one at the library for some time). Will use some of Uncle's bequest, I guess - I sent some of it to my long-deceased brother's three "kids" (now in their 40s), as I'd suggested to Uncle that he leave something to them, but he didn't get around to it. Their Dad and Uncle farmed together for several years when they were young while brother owned Grandma's farm, and brother died when they were in early teens, so they've known some rough times. At the investment group last night, said that I had onl.y 4 hours left to enjoy being 84 ... ... and, they didn't even sing "Happy birthday ... " to me ... ... plus, at the after-meeting for a few to continue the discussion at the arches fast food place, after ... I had to buy my own coffee! As for that candle on the cupcake at the ROMEOs last week, that I held at arm's length ... I did get it blown out! To some merriment ... who thought that there was a blow-hard ... in this august group! 'Twould be quite a job - to get 85 candles on a cupcake: wall-to-wall fire, right! The temp. around here is warmer today - about 20 F. I goofed, earlier - drove right by the licence renewal place and forgot the need to go in. Looking for another place in the city at present. Hi Jannie, If one of your daughters, at age 15, invests One Whole Dollar ... ... and manages to have it earn 5% rate of return throughout ... ... through 50 years of time ... ... when she hits the ripe old age of 65 ... that dollar will have multiplied 2-1/2 times - it'll be worth $11.00 and change. If she can manage a 10% return, it'll grow to $117.00 and change. No allowance in either case for the erosion of annual income by income tax, and of the value of one's dollar-denominated assets due to inflation. And when she buys a pack of cigarettes - she pays a lot more than a Buck for each one of them. Most of which goes up in smoke - though some stays in her lungs. And the residue can cause a lot of trouble. Can she imagine what people would think of her were she to stand on a main street corner in town and set on fire as many dollars as she spent on smokes that week? And do that at that street corner - every week? People would say that she was nuts. But - that would do her a lot less harm than using those dollars to buy smokes. Trouble is, though - in the U.S., I think that she'd go to jail: it's a Federal offence to destroy money, as it is Federal property. I do hope that your daughters decide that it is a destructive habit - and one of the worst addictions. I don't want to be a slave to a person - much less to a white paper tube filled with dead leaves!! That sounds some stupid, to me. Why not tell us what the message was?
Why allude to the fact that a thread exists and make us search for it? At least provide a link to the thread.

Personally, I'm not curious enough to go over to the Kitchen Table forum and wade through pages and pages of threads to find the one you are talking about.

When Spike ran things here, he took a dim view of copying identical items from one forum to another.

Possibly we can get away with it, these days.

But I guess I sort of got habits entrenched at an earlier time.

Somewhat similar to the (probably mythical) sign by a Prairie dirt road, which gets rather heavily rutted after a rain, "Pick your rut carefully - you'll be in it for the next ten miles!".

Make a list of all the friends, relatives, acquaintances you've known thru life, their phone, email, etc.

Plus their training, interests, work, skills and various other issues related to them.

When you need something, consult one of them who knows about that situation: most folks like to talk about things that they know about (and some of us like to talk about most anything).

Some of them may be able to help you find the product or service that you need at a better price, that'll give you better service, e.g. mechanics who know which engines in which cars have given trouble, etc.

Add to the database as more information comes along.

It should save you hundreds, possibly thousands, during your lifetime.

I'd plsanned to go to the Kitchen Table and add another message, which would bring the post to the top of page one again (moves about 2 pages per day) but haven't done it yet.

P.S. On the other hand ... you could go back to look for a former year's post, on a slow-moving forum, as the message might still be there. I posted it on different forms in successive years.
