Thanks, everyone. We have Chicago Peace, Fragrant Cloud and Peter Mayle, and love them, though PM needs more time, I guess, to bloom more (2 yo own-root), and Chicago Peace just doesn't bloom much. Fragrant Cloud blooms all the time! For some reason, I pictured Frederic Mistral as almost ATTRACTING thrips/rain damage....guess I'm wrong? I was thinking you'd say Valencia...it looks GORGEOUS and I hear so much about it!! I somehow knew someone might say "Buxom Beauty" (though I thought I read that it shattered quickly?) and "Dolly Parton" LOL "Voluptuous" sounds nice. Krista, no, I don't have New Zealand....will look up on helpmefind again. That's the word (SUBSTANCE) I was looking for! Yves Piaget I already have on my list...unfortunately, Peace, though FAMOUS, is very boring to my mind....have seen it locally in our city garden....just too blah for me! I also don't understand what it is about Tiffany that everyone raves about....I can barely smell her. I don't see why it WOULDN'T work...like you say, the concept is the same. I would be concerned about headroom, so I might consider propping some 2L bottle halves in various places to keep the tarp up, and secure it down on the edges...still adding your vent-holes. BUT...the other huge concern is still those weeds. Professional grow mix, or prepared seed mix won't likely produce as many weeds as you'll probably still get with your tarp setup because the weed seeds are already present. I'm sure others will chime in.

I love your Lobelia, and wish I could grow it here, but it's too dry, and I don't have enough shade. Are those Zinnias mixed in with it in the second photo? Your Asclepias tuberosa pictures have made me decide that I am definitely wintersowing some more of that this year! I left the pods on, so that I could collect the seed, but I have noticed some weird bugs on mine too. Will they eat the seedpods? Yesterday, when I was working in the garden, a hummer was just 3 or 4 feet from me, happily drinking out of the Agastache 'Apache Sunset', and I was wishing that I had my camera with me.
