Gaining wait with Menopause

I have had a hard time with menopause....I have gained weight and can't seem to get it off.....a girlfriend told me about this all natural product called New Life Formula. I was wondering if anyone else out there has heard of this product. SHe has been taking it for 5 years and swears by it.......

If anyone out there could help me out with some information about this product, if they are on it or know anyone on it that would be great. I know the web page is new life formula . com

You must be having a tough time. My thoughts are with you.

Your best bet is to take the ingredient list to your doctor and ask him/her for advice.

A quick search of a couple of the ingredients reveals some cautions.

Ingredient list of this supplement:
Licorice Root, Red Raspberry Leaves, Sarsaparilla Root, Scullcap, Siberian Ginseng, Angelica Root, Nettles, Red Clover Blossoms, Wild Yam Root Extract, Lemon Balm, Black Cohosh Root Extract, Blessed Thistle, Dong Quai Root, Yellow Dock Root, Vitex and Chaste Tree Berry Extract.

Some examples of cautions published on the above ingredients.

Licorice Root Cautions:
Do not take Licorice if you have chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, or any disease that impedes the flow of bile from the liver. Avoid it also if you have abnormal muscle tension, poor kidney function, or low potassium levels in your blood.

Special Cautions
At recommended dosage levels, Licorice is unlikely to produce any side effects. However, when taken in high dosages (above 2 ounces per day) for an extended period of time, it will lead to excessive loss of salt from the blood, water retention, high blood pressure, and heart irregularities. Because of the possibility of these side effects, limit use of Licorice preparations to 6 weeks. The side effects disappear after the drug is discontinued.
Possible Drug Interactions
Licorice can increase the potassium loss caused by the other drugs, such as diuretics that flush excess water from the body (Diuril, Zaroxolyn, others). This potassium loss can, in turn, increase your sensitivity to drugs containing digitalis, such as the heart medication Lanoxin.
Licorice may also increase the effects--and unwanted side effects--of steroid medications such as prednisone (Deltasone).

Dong Quai Root, Special Cautions
If you are suffering from diarrhea or bloating, check with your doctor before using Dong Quai. Remember, too, that Dong Quai sometimes increases sensitivity to sunlight, particularly if you are fair-skinned. To avoid a sunburn when using this herb on an extended basis, limit your exposure to the sun.

Vitex, Special Cautions
See your doctor for a diagnosis. Don't rely on Vitex alone. Skin rash is a potential side effect of Vitex.
Possible Drug Interactions
Vitex may interfere with the action of the digestive stimulant Reglan, as well as certain major tranquilizers, including Haldol, Prolixin, and Thorazine.

That's abnormal, your menstruation stopped at 40 and came back at 55. It was 15 years. The symptoms you are experiencing are signs of menopausal per se yet the problems underlies with 15 years of having no mens. You need to see your GP immediately.

Hi melonwhelz, Sorry I didn't respond sooner, had a rough week taking my dog who has an incurable disease to all these different vets. He will be okay and I will just pray for the best as he is my bestest friend. Anyway, the day after I posted, I started to spot, thought I was going to get my period, but nope! It never happened. I have to make an app't to see my gyno. Yes, my body is very confused and sending mixed messages to my brain which I hate! At least when I had Lyme I knew all my symptoms including the mood swings and depression, but this is a whole new ballgame! I am feeling a different type of depression, almost like I am bored but too tired to do anything about it. I did receive the book "Awakening at Midlife" yesterday so I am going to start reading that. How is your sister? I help many people who have Lyme Disease because it is horrible and so misunderstood, especially by doctors because they don't know how to treat it. What helped me recover was following a book written by a brilliant doctor named Dr. David Jernigan (Beating Lyme Disease Using Alternative Medicine". I know so many people that are cured now because of Dr. Jernigan. Maybe your sister should buy the book? Anyway, I feel so drained, is that normal? In the past 3-4 years, my sister and I have experienced the passing of our brother, mother and father. (I am 49 and she is 52). This was a horribly tumultuous and painful time - care-giving issues prior to my parents' passing were extremely difficult and I personally feel a lot of guilt for not having been there as much as I should have. But my sister didn't make it easy, and even now, our relationship is strained, though I do see a light somewhere out there. Only now, as I have been officially declared in menopause this month (or am I now post-menopausal?), do I realize that both my sister and I were probably going through perimenopause and all its various symptoms, and because of that, we were both going through changes of our own, while at the same time attempting to deal with the premature and tragic death of my brother and the slow, degenerative (both mind and body) aging of our parents. Sadly, my sister still does not wish to speak of such matters, and I am happy to have a best friend to whom I can talk about most any subject. This forum helps immensely as well. Alternating feelings of intense dread, anxiety, rage and sadness were all a part of me during those years, and even until recently. But I have a vague feeling I am becoming more at peace (or is that just wishful thinking?) DH once told me, I cannot feel guilty for something that was the way it was. I meant no intentional harm or ill-will to anyone - quite the contrary - I cared so much, that's why it hurt so much. My sister and I have both made it through (at least I am guessing she has - she doesn't talk about "the change" etc). There are wounds still fresh, and some very old scars - and I pray that one day we can talk openly about all that has happened. If not, so be it - maybe that's the way it is meant to be, but in the meantime - the heart must be open. And finally, after all those times I was so depressed and sad, that I thought I was mad and I felt I wanted to leave this earthly place, I now know for certain that I want to live - fully, and as best as I can - for as long as I can, with those that I love around me.
