I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Amy, it was good to see your post. I hope you will be able to log on an share when you can. Time flies for sure.

BJ, thanks for sharing Amy's post.

We had a good weekend. Saturday was beautiful for riding. Yesterday was cloudy and cold. Still it was nice to be home with nothing that HAD to be done.

Good morning!

Just got in from a great walk. Low humidity makes it so nice.

Suzanne, loved your picture and so glad to see Sweet Pea up and going strong.

We went to New Orleans with friends for the weekend. Ole Miss was playing Tulane at the Superdome. We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton which was so beautiful. Saw lots of old friends. Some had not seen me since I lost my weight, so that made it even more fun. Made me even more determined to stay with it. We did a lot of walking/shopping. Ate shrimp remoulade at the Bon Ton. I ordered the small portion, so don't feel like I did too badly. But the next day I had chargrilled oysters with melted butter and parmesan cheese at Drago's (they taste like steak they are so good), with good crusty French bread to dip in the butter sauce. THEN for dinner one night I had veal bolognese at Maximo's. Thank goodness it was just a weekend - ha! Ivamae, it will be hard to weigh in on Wednesay, but at least I'll know where the pounds came from!

Happy MONDAY!

The cruise was great and I'm busy catching up with e:mails and other issues at work. I have not lost weight, but I did not gain an ounce while on that ship. Did lots of walking and eating smaller portions. I tried everything, but did not eat all of everything, so I'm OK.

Raeanne, I think I have some time in May 2011 free (LOL!), so I need to see what this Girlfriends stuff is all about!

Tikanis, I'm not sure about early October, as DH and I wanted to make a run to NC to check on the house. I'll let you know if I can make it out to see you.

BJ, you are amazing!

Maddie, hope all is well with your project.

Marci, you look great out there in the water. Keep your spirits up in work, I think about you often during the school day hours.

Amy, thanks for checking in with us. Sorry that you and Heather are not feeling well. Sending you both some special thoughts.

A couple of notes because the rest is going to be rather long and involved: Lynda, I have the Vitex marked for you and in your baggie! And thank you for the marigolds! They will be very interesting with my others! Dessie I would be more than happy to receive your little helper's seed packets! I think it's great! Wendy Try some Chai Spice tea, it works wonders in helping clear up colds and flu. I always add a dollop of honey to help sooth the throat. It's a staple in our house and really does help. Alright, here is my take on this.. I can understand how many were hoping that the two swaps would not coincide, but, we all knew there was a fair chance of that happening. For myself, I know that I continued to update my list, even well after Patty's swap's mailing deadline. I did my updates using the same method we did for Patty's swap- using an updated date. Even had I not, I knew there was a good chance the two swaps would overlap. I joined this one knowing full well- according to the guidelines posted for it- that I may NOT receive as many as I sent in. That I would receive as many as were sent in FOR me, up to five packets of the SAME item. I recall there being some issue with this and a member who became very rude in their comments about this fact. Yes, my package from the What's Left swap is in the second batch to go out. No, I did not keep strict record of what I sent to those who were in the What's Left swap. I did keep better records of what I'm sending for this swap. I also know that a lot of people will be sending in baggies of seeds marked as extras- not dedicated for anyone, but to add in when it's seen those items are on someone's list. No, these may not be some of the rarer or more exclusively wanted items on someone's list. But if someone has some of those rarer or more specific items to share, I'm sure they would have put them into your baggie before they mailed. So, I don't see that anyone would be missing out on anything. The only way I could see having updated one's list further as complicating Patty's swap would be if someone had removed things from their list. Updating and adding items would not have conflicted. Because if there were any extras of what you were wanting, Patty would have included them. So, I guess I'm not really understanding how there is such a need to update the lists just because one is in both swaps. If I receive duplicates, wonderful! Because the things on my list are things I want! If I don't receive something on my list, then no one had it to share. If I receive so many of something that I can't plant it all, then I can bless someone else by offering it up for a trade. So, perhaps I'm being dense here, but how would one not receive something sent in specifically for them (up to FIVE packets of the same item!) that was on their wants list in this swap? Everyone has the chance to see your wants as posted and you have had the option to add to that list, as many including myself have this whole time. The only thing I could really see the two swaps happening almost simultaneously possibly affecting would be one's have's list. I'm sorry, I don't mean to upset or offend anyone. I'm just honestly trying to understand why this is such an issue. So please don't take this as meaning to offend or as pointed to anyone in particular. This is just me trying to understand why so many are upset about this. If you prefer to email me privately and help me understand it, I would be pleased with that and please do! Perhaps there are aspects and issues with this that I'm not readily seeing and should consider. I don't want to keep the thread off track by my question becoming a debate here. Perhaps there can be some adjustments of dates if this swap happens in the late summer or again next winter, but for this year it is as it is and personally, I'm really enjoying it! Nancy, I hope you don't decide to drop out, because I know that I should have at least a couple of things from your list, perhaps more. But I'll respect your choice and be your Garden Buddy either way :) Fran, you have a real job ahead of you and I don't know how those like you and Patty do it! Leave me hosting my "pair em up and let em go" or true RR type swaps! I think those of you that host this kind of swap are awesome! Angela, you have been a wonderful help to Fran and all of us in this swap! I know the time it can take to code pages like that, though updates are easier once the initial work is done, and I want to say THANK YOU for the time and work you are putting in on this swap for everyone's benefit! Hi Ohio Fem! I don't have a particularly large amount of space that isn't shaded. We put the plastic shed against the house when we first moved in, back when the property was all lawn. The previous owner sub-divided and sold the lot behind us. I look at that 1/4 acre of sun-drenched bliss nearly every day and shake my head. I got the buckets from the bakery dept in the local grocery store just to try out container tomatoes. Then I bought 2x10x10 boards and that was how they fit. I didn't give it much thought at the time since the seedings were teeny when they went in. I've decided to move the shed. That will give me an area about 10' x 10' for growing my tomatoes. I have to empty it and find a few strong guys to move it. I have a huge live oak in the shade, so we'll put it under the tree. I bought 32 resin pots last week and a pallet full of soil stuff. The white buckets will go along the cyclone fence and I'll use them for plum tomatoes for sauce. Thanks JoeOrganic. Prayers are always appreciated. I feel pretty good most days. My energy remains low so if I have an hour of steady work in the garden, it's a good day! When I move the shed and switch to the new pots I was planning to build a different sort of trellis system. I don't know why, but when they built this house they put the septic and leeching field behind the house. OTOH, the front lawn is HUGE and would have been a great place for the septic business. I figure they had to have been on drugs or something. It's FL! Everyone puts a pool behind the house! You can't dig in the soil where the shed sits, so I was going to put 2x2x10 in buckets and fill them with cement. Then I was going to attach 10 feet of 4x4" wire fencing to each end and grow tomatoes on either side with 8 pots per row. I'll have 4 rows of tomatoes with an aisle in between. That should take up the entire amount of tomato growing real estate I'll have in that spot. Plums will stay in the white buckets along the sunny fence area around the yard. THis is what I have so far: Cherokee Purple Floradade (developed specifically for FL by UF) Black Cherry Black Plum Amish Paste Tigerella Green Zebra San Marzano Mortgage Lifter Yellow Gooseberry I bought more seeds to start inside in Dec for the second half of the FL growing season: Sun Gold Berkeley Tie Dye Yellow Mortgage Lifter Dr Wyche's Yellow Pantano Romanesco Paul Robeson Black Krim Large Barred Boar Green Grape Jersey Giants Blue Berries Purple Bumble Bee Pink Bumble Bee I've been told that cherry and smaller variety tomatoes do better in the FL heat than large tomatoes. I had planted Beefsteak and Brandywine in the ground last spring thinking they would be fine to grow in the summer. I don't think I had a single tomato more than 1' around. Almost all of them split wide open from the daily monsoon rains. I guess that's why the growing season here is from Sept - June. The heat and constant rain here kills everything. The only thing that grew all summer was Okra. I did get n enormous amount of Roma tomatoes but they were very small and thick skinned. Thank you so much for your words of advice. I do have quite a few very small plants. When I started the seeds I had 100% germination, except for the yellow gooseberries. They didn't grow at all until I placed a few seeds on top of the soil in the bucket and kept them well watered. I had placed two plants in many of the buckets, thinking one might die. They didn't. After 4 weeks I pulled the second plant from each pot and put them in 1/2 gallon pots. The plants in the five gallon buckets started to take off and get bigger. The plants in the small pots will get transplanted into a bucket for the spring season. Hopefully they will have a head start over the seedlings I'll be starting soon. Like I've said, I really don't know what I'm doing. My Italian grandparents had a farm in upstate NY when was a kid and I spent every August there. We helped pick the tomatoes and spent days cooking, straining, making sauce and canning with grandma. My parents always had lots of tomatoes, swiss chard and peppers too. I can't call any of them for advice because they no longer walk among us, LOL. So it sounds like I'm hearing that I should trim the suckers if I want to have a few large variety tomatoes and leave the cherry and plums alone so that I have more production with the small varieties? Hi goils! Besh--your MIL is in my thoughts and prayers---(((hugs)))!! How is Happyto? I was thinking about her a while back, and was hoping that things were good for her-- Tikanas--happy belated birthday! :):) Well, I got the auction--I signed it on Monday, and have a good chance to maybe get the real estate--it's been rezoned as commercial, so it would be a goooood thing for me--and I'd appreciate any and all good thoughts for me to get this--it can literally change my life-- Things are good here--the weather is great--I can't believe it's this nice--78, and low humidity. Raeanne--since you liked my sticky chicken mishap, I think you'll enjoy this one--I decided in June to enter a cake in the KY State Fair (which started here on Thurs). So I sent off the $, got the rules, and waited until last Sunday morning to make the cake (it was due by Mon at 5pm, but I had to work...). Let me preface all of this by saying that I have never made this cake before--I found the recipe in a box of stuff that I bought at an auction(now, **that's** a surprise!), and so therefore had no idea just what I was walking into. On Sat night, after getting out of the bath, with wet hair and no makeup, I realize that I need a bottle of bourbon--well, actually, just 2 tablespoons. So, off the the liquor store I go, and find an airplane bottle of Maker's Mark, and then realize that I have no cash. So, I charged $2.50. I was sooo embarrassed. Anyway, I got up at 6am on Sun morning to preheat the oven, and off I go. I'm just a mixin and a stirin, and raisin all sorts of h3ll, and I pour the batter into 3 brand-new 9" pans, and they go into to the over for 45 minute. DING! They're done--whhoooboy--they are done--burned on the bottom, that is. I'm standing in the middle of the kitchen, hot, tired, and just bawling. I was just so mad--and I had a raging case of PMS to top it all of, and poor ol Rog--didn't know whether to hug or to laugh. He wisely chose to hug, and then told me that we can cut the botteom of the layers off, and noone would ever know (true.) So that was our plan. Now--to top all of this off, the entry department opened at noon, and I was supposed to be at work at an auction at noon, so I had to keep an eye on the time. I made the frosting following the directions, and dumped into way to much powdered sugar, which gave it that funny, sugar-y taste, so then I added more bananas, which changed the texture. THEN--my cat decided to love me as I was dropping in the yellow food coloring (did I mention that this is a banana cake?), which made my icing look like a horrible mustard color (made worse by the fact that it had lumpy stuff like toasted coconut and chopped pecans in it), only sicker. What a freaking mess---I wanted to throw the d@mned thing aqgainst the wall, but managed to refrain. I iced it, and it is sitting on my countertop, glowing like a d@mned lighthouse. Sigh..... The weather was indeed perfect, albeit hot and humid for such a meeting. Saratoga is a lovely, small and old city with lovely architecture. I was right at home with the horse statues that lined the lovely main boulevard called Broadway! Saratoga as you may know is home to some very elite horse racing, amoung other things. Raeanne and I met early and perused the shops before meeting DeeMarie. I spotted Raeanne immediately at our meeting place. Her hair is done in a modern cut that kicks out in a playful way! I love the color and style Raeanne, it's so you! Her eyes are still a beautiful and brillant blue! After shopping we went to the meeting place for Dee but she wasn't there so we proceeded to the restaurant meeting place. As we were crossing the street I could see a woman waving in our general direction and I knew at once it was DeeMarie!! How wonderful that she spotted us and I felt so special that as I waved, she waved back. It was a fun exchange. So it was there at the restaurant that I meet our wonderful DeeMarie. She has the most wonderful and expressive big brown eyes and I knew at once that I had a wonderful and caring friend for life! It's amazing at how we women, and man, communicate and have become such fast friends! We shared a wonderful lunch. Okay, Dee and Raeanne did. I had the luck to order one of the worst things I have ever had and it was ironic a because everyone else had a wonderful meal before them...........figures. We shared a bottle of lovely white wine alfresco which was really good against the heat of the day! After lunch we went to our card reading................boy was that enlightening!! This woman had a great deal to tell me that was very accurate!! She is a gifted woman and I think we all came away with some new info!! Then we toured the shops of Broadway, Saragoga Springs, NY. It was fun, fun, fun but way too short a time. I had to depart by 3:30-4:00 to be back in time to feed my steeds.................I could have stayed and talked all night! I had a lovely ride home full of fond memories of my time with my sisters. Ladies and gent, we must find a way for more of us to have this meeting and connection! BJ, I am sure that Las Vegas is too far for some but we sure should try to all connect.............it's so much fun. Thank you DeeMarie and Raeanne for a very special day.

Maddie, In our MIcro biology class we were given 2 bacteria samples (taken from swabs of various places by upperclassmen) called "unknowns" and throughout the semester, though sampling, testing, hypothesis and analysis, we had to determine WHAT the bacteria were. What a picnic THAT was! I was ready to cry several times but managed to pass that grueling class.

Marci, I thought of you yesterday as the throngs of pre schoolers crossed the street in front of me, all holding hands. You have the patience of a saint!

I have more to say (Ha Ha!) but I must run. Payroll tomorrow! Hope to be back later today.

I have had a very busy week so far, but weighed this morning and was the same.

I'm not getting quite as much walking in and I do believe it shows. Also think I have some fluid retention. As long as I stay the same, it is better than gaining .

Dee - I hung up my hoe months ago - no time for games LOL. That will be awesome if you can make GF weekend, especially if Suzanne and Tikanis are in too! My little town will never be the same.

Since you girls may be coming to the Girlfriends weekend, tell me some of the things you would be interested in doing? I haven't scheduled anyone but my keynote speaker so far. I am definitely including yoga, kayaking, hiking, gardening and cooking. May offer chair massages and beauty tips. How about interior decorating? All around nutrition/health? Maybe a talk on social networking? - hey look at us! I'm interested in anyone else's ideas as well - you don't have to come to have good ideas. Don't worry Dee there will be no horses - sorry Suzanne LOL.

Jan - sounds like you had a great time.

Suzanne - it was great to see SP in all her glory. You did good.

I have company, which I sent out to sightsee without me LOL. I need to straighten up and regroup before they return - is it too early for a cocktail???

Hey Raeanne, how about "The Joys and Nutritional Advantages of Cocktails in the Morning"? or "Living your Life without Interactions with Large Animals"? LMBO!! (with apologies--again--to my animal-friendly sisters here). Seriously, I saw the agenda from this year, and I loved most of them. Topics that include reducing stress, meditation techniques, interior decorating, beauty tips (I can really use that!), everythig you mentioned is great!

I need to solve some problems for at least 3 coworkers now. BTW, I hope to win the mega-millions before next year and treat all of you to Raeanne's weekend.

Hi, ladies! It's me - back from the world of very little computer access!!!!!

I finally can access the internet on my little laptop, the first time in 3 months, so now I can play as much as I want. It was difficult using my friend's computer for very long at a time without being a nuisance, so it became just easier to not even try most days.

Looks like I've got a lot of reading and catching up to do. It's the perfect time to have a bad knee, I guess. Unfortunately, it's my artificial knee, and that's worrisome to me because all I did to start this problem was step carefully (I swear!) down off a curb Sunday afternoon, and ever since then, every time I turn around, I'm reinjuring it. Today, I've just stayed in bed with ice wraps until the man came to hook up my 'puter.

I've missed everyone. Looks like the divorce may happen next week now because my lawyer and I feel like almost-x's figures are as close to the truth as we can determine. I'll be glad to have that part of my life behind me. He's been more than unpleasant these last 3 months, and I can't handle any more stress.

Back in a day or so once I backread y'all's news!

Hi all-

I am thinking of Allie today, and remembering how sweet she was. She always had a kind word for everyone. I wonder how Zig is, too. I miss her popping in from time to time. I had the pleasure of meeting her and her family when we drove back from Canada. A lovely, wonderful lady.

Amy! How good to see you post! Miss you! Please come back more often.

Suzanne--what a great pic of you and SP. I'm so very glad to see that picture, and know that she is back to her self. The 2010 Alltech Equestrian Games are set to begin in Lexington, KY next weekend, and it should be something to see! I wish we could go together! I believe that it's the first time it's ever been held outside of Europe, and it's dressage events.

DH is working and I've been doing laundry and trying to pay bills (by grabbing $$ from different accounts). Some months you just can't win....

Donna, please put that weekend on your calendar so we can drive up together. I'm about 3-4 hours from Raeanne's party! Hope others decide to join in.
