Not happy with being unable to lose a few pounds I've gained or with my lack of motivation to get back to exercising more than twice a week. However on a positive note DH, who has a major sweet tooth and always has dessert around, has decided to cut back on this. He's the model for being fit and trim but after having a stroke his doctor wants him to get his LDL lower and he doesn't want to take medication. He exercises a lot and eats very healthy other than the sweets so he's cut that out. I'm amazed how easily he has just eliminated it. The good thing for me is that now we don't have this around to tempt me which will be very, very good for my sugar addiction and in turn my weight loss I think. Now that I've killed off the dark chocolate covered pretzel crisps the house is all clear of this stuff. I don't have a problem avoiding buying it, just avoiding eating it if it's around. I've also decided I need to eat more protein. I'm not a big meat eater though I don't mind meat. I'm just a big fruit, vegetable and whole grain eater which is fine but not great for protein consumption. I'm thinking if I eat same calories but more protein I'll be more satisfied and not wanting to eat as much. Time will tell. My 57th birthday is coming up in ten days. I'm happy to be getting "old" considering I've had cancer three times. Yippee!! Between my situation and DH's stroke last year, we are very focused on enjoying life and doing things we want to do before we croak. You never know how much time you've got. We truly enjoy every day but for special events, we're going to Scotland in September. I've also just made reservations to go to Yellowstone and Grand Teton in the fall of 2015. We joke (kind of) that we hope we're still around by then. Seems like a long way off but it goes by fast.

Bonnie, you are doing great! And you are right, it does seem like things are getting harder. I guess they get easier if we stick to it, though, right? ( I hope!!) Annie, that is awesome!!!!! Congrats! Beth, wow about waitressing. I really think it is such a tough job, one of the toughest. How did your weight training go? I am a little less into it this week. Tried a new DVD from a friend but it was so repetitive and I hurt my knees a little. Also got my period EARLY (very early) so I have to deal with that. Missed my workout yesterday despite getting up very early because I had to make things for my mom's b-day . . .but I made myself get up early today to get the workout done, so I didn't miss any! Whew. I see, though, that if I can't do it in the a.m., it is very hard to fit it in at any other time. I really want to get some light equipment and new DVDs. Something easy on the knees but that will really strengthen my legs, butt, etc. to help with my knees. Ideas?

I was going to say yes until I read what most of you are doing! Mine are included in a fitness program I go to called "Fit For Life", 3x a week. We have a wonderful set of trainers and a variety of classes. I start with a 30 minute cardio session where we only stop long enough to get some water a couple times. Then the next class is a Cardio Fit class that has kind of a circuit method to it. She usually starts with some lower level cardio to get those who haven't been to the first cardio session warmed up, then we use weights, bands, balls, pool noodles, with cardio spurts in between. That runs an hour with the last being a cool down. She incorporates balance, flexibility, strengthening , and stretching in every session. It is really for seniors as she takes Silver Sneakers for payment but you can also pay yourself if not 65 or if you don't have insurance. The classes are uplifting to me and I have more energy when I finish than when I start. My last bone density showed improvement and my cholesterol dropped 40 points from one test to another once I had started the cardio class. What I really appreciate is that she tells us what muscle each exercise is working on as well as making sure we are doing it properly. She is great at giving modifications for those who have issues with shoulders, knees or lower back problems. She makes sure to stretch and strengthen the areas that us "older" people have issues with that cause I to fall like the achilles tendon, ankles, wrist, and knees.

As soon as it was announced we were going to remote instruction in early March, I ordered 1-5 lb dumbbells and a tree to store them, DH also had a set he had at MIL’s Yoga blocks, straps, and bolster got my bicycle tuned up Then later on I had a hard time getting the TRX system and a Reebok step (waited about a month for each of those). I try to do the strengthening and yoga on Tu-Th or Tu-Friday. Today was Zumba step. I used to teach step aerobics in the 1990’s, so it’s really been fun to do that again. I’m really glad they do the Zumba by Zoom. It’s only $5 per class or else $29 for a whole week unlimited. I’ve also had the treadmill workstation for awhile. I was on a conference call today where I didn’t need to appear on video, so it is great to walk while doing that.
