High Blood Pressure

I have high blood pressure and am on medication. Does anyone else have this problem and did it affect your HCG diet? I'm just wondering about the low salt along with the increased water.

What does your Dr say? Know your meds and the side effects. As to salt? it depends on you. I have HBP and when it is hot/humid my system requires salt and my Doc said ok. Otherwise I will pass out. I drink diluted gator aid during the heat also. Water is good. Not sure what you mean HCG? Web MD and the mayo clinic have some good resources also. You should check your BP at least once a day. It is easy to do. Record it and discuss it with your Dr. It depends on how high it is, how long you have had it, whether it "bounces" or not. Exercise is good.

No one in their right mind should go on that diet, let alone someone who has high blood pressure. That is a totally insane "diet". There is no quick fix. Talk to your doctor about a sensible approach to losing weight.

There's some pretty good evidence supporting garlic as an anti-hypertensive* (in addition to being tasty). "More recently, garlic has been shown to have BP (blood pressure)-lowering properties. A meta-analysis including 20 clinical trials suggested garlic to be superior to placebo in lowering BP in hypertensive patients on average by 8-9 mmHg in SBP and 6-7 mmHg in DBP, P That last part is interesting, suggesting that some people with high blood pressure will respond especially well to garlic supplementation, others not at all. People who are on anti-bloot clot medication (i.e. warfarin) are warned against taking more than about 1 clove of garlic a day, because garlic has anti-platelet activity and could increase bleeding risks. *the fact that there have been that many clinical trials of garlic (in addition to all the other research done on it) is another blow to the claim that "no one researches medicinal effects of herbs because they can't be patented".

I'm female, 5' 7", 125 lbs, my cholesterol levels are great, I eat healthy and work out at a gym daily. My BP was around 105/65 since I was in my twenties. Two years ago (at 52) I got a sore throat with swollen glands so I went to the doctor. My BP had gone up to 175/95 overnight! I know this because I check my heart rate and BP at the gym every day and it was my normal 105/65 the day before I got the sore throat. My throat culture came back positive for strep throat (which my doc said isn't too common among middle age folks) and I was put on antibiotics. The doctor wanted to wait until I'd finished the medication and the strep had cleared to see if my BP went back to normal. Unfortunately, it never did, and I had to be put on BP medication. My doctor thinks the strep throat somehow shocked my system and caused my BP to be permanently altered. On medication (the lowest dose possible) it hovers around my previous 105/65, but if she takes me off that low dose, it shoots right back up again. So I guess I'm on meds for life now. Just wanted to share that it's possible for BP to go haywire with a virus or bacterial infection and be unable to regulate itself back to normal afterwards.

Sheri, yes I 'renewed' the card on line . . . the physical piece of plastic doesn't alter, and ordered the book. When the item arrives at the branch I will receive an email giving me so many days in which to collect it. They also send out emails telling you that there are only a certain number of days remaining before the book has to be returned. If it is not in demand it is possible to take it out for longer. I cannot see why they don't have some system to let you know that the card is just about to/has expired . . . there is no information anywhere telling you that it only has a certain 'life-span'. I really miss our mobile library. No fines were ever imposed, the staff were like old friends . . . in fact we would often spend longer chatting/catching up than checking the shelves (they only waited for about 15 mins). Although there were only a few books from which to choose it concentrated the mind wonderfully and I picked up stuff I would usually never have read. I only balked at the tatty books that had previously been in the library at Gloucester Prison, they were always very well thumbed and needed a good disinfect!

" "In patients with chronic low back or orofacial pain, elevated BP levels at rest were associated with an increased sensitivity to acute pain and a higher intensity of chronic pain" That is not what I experienced. I have two chronic pain conditions, sciatica and something resembling fibromyalgia. I thought I was getting much better and even reduced my opioid medication. Then, I discovered that my BP was higher and, after taking BP meds, Lisinopril and Amiodipine Besylate, my pain was worse. Even years before that, my pain would vary randomly from day to day. That pain variation could be explained by BP fluctuations. And, long before I had any chronic pain, there was a random variation of my energy levels from day to day. That also could be explained by BP fluctuations. And, dehydration increases my pain greatly. Dehydration lowers BP.

I noticed that most of those diet "plans" tell you to eat less - shucks! You can do that without spending all that money for some fad ingredient that supposedly makes you lose weight! Plus, losing one pound a day is not healthy. Losing weight that way just means you will put it right back on.

Watch portions, avoid white flour and white sugar and exercise!

bee, I'm on blood pressure meds and also trying to lose weight. I'm sticking as close to 1200 calories a day as posible and eaying anything I want up to that amount - Well really not so, as I have to watch my Vitamin K intake as well because I am on blood thinners, so can't have everything I want. I am striving to lose 1 pound a week as I feel that is much better than a lot in a short time. So far I have lost 43 pounds. I post each week on the support topic. Eveyone is a great help. Why don't you try that rather than taking a chance with a diet that might/might not harm you. I found that when I lost weight quickly I didn't keep it off.

My b/p runs between 134/80 and 159/97, i'm on meds, The Dr. told me to stay away from salt as much as possible. Then I have a friend that has to use salt to keep from getting too weak. You MUST work with your Dr. when losing weight.

I don't know what HCG diet is but every DR. i've ever talked to and every medical talk show ive ever watched says any more loss then 1-2.5 a week is dangerous.

Aim High and work slow and you'll get there. Watching others progress is encouraging to me, so please keep up in the loop (to copy ivamae).
