French door security vs. sliding glass doors
Comments (15)First, sliders aren’t very secure, so almost any French door is going to be more secure. Years ago we replaced sliders w/ Anlin French doors in the DR. They use a multi-point locking system that is way more secure than the sliders. Ours are outswing, too, b/c if they were in-swing they’d be too close to chairs on that side w/ someone sitting on the chair. We got operating sidelights so we could have air flow w/ doors closed. I didn’t want a screen door for ease of entry/exit & looks w/ V-grooved glass. The sidelights are screened....See MoreSliding Doors vs. French Doors
Comments (8)consider your floor plan, and where you want the opening(s) to be located. if you are veering around a central grouping of furniture, having an option to go right or left is good. if the furniture is more to either side, the center door works. i like 3 sets of french doors, they are far easier to open and close than giant sliding panels. but that swing has to be arranged around....See More2 windows and double french doors vs 4 panel sliding doors
Comments (41)We built in 2021 and ended up with 5 multi-sliding doors from Euro-wall. We needed impact/hurricane rated doors. All of ours are 10 ft high to fit our 12 ft ceilings. Our largest is 6-panels and 18 ft wide. We also have 4-panels that are 12 ft wide and 2-panel that are 6 ft wide. Very happy with them, except one is missing weather stripping and we have been waiting forever for the window/door dealer to send their warranty crew out to make the repair....See MoreLift and slide vs stackable sliding glass patio doors
Comments (13)We are in the PNW and our architect recommended the Marvin or Western, which has a telescoping door system. We went with the Western door (3 panel) and saved money. We also did a flush threshold. The framers need to make sure to account for this so don’t let them forget it. Despite us telling our GC multiple times, the framers ended up having to go back and create the threshold lower so it would sit flush. Since you are in the PNW, you should account for rain on the threshold. Our door is under a covered porch so rain isn’t an issue....See MoreNancy in Mich
