Only having read it thrice, I'll limit my comments for now to hood construction and general requirements.] In order to obtain relatively equal flow through the filter area, whether baffles or mesh, there has to either be some height above the baffles (probably commensurate with their airfoil length), or similarly above the mesh (narrow dimension), or the mesh has to be so restrictive that it chokes the flow equally at all points (not good). So of all the noted configurations that weren't already rejected by the OP, I would vote for narrowing her consideration to whichever ones provide enough height for the selected filter type and dimensions. Baffles have advantages over mesh filters, but both can filter if the meshes are kept clean. Less tortuous duct paths are preferred over more tortuous paths. Full power actual flow rate (CFM) should be roughly 90 cfm/sq. foot of hood aperture, if possible. A rated capability of the blower of 1.5x that above should accommodate pressure losses in ducting, hood, filters, transitions, and MUA restrictions. Duct area should allow the air velocity in the duct at full power (90 cfm/sq. ft times the aperture area in square feet divided by the duct area in square feet) to be between 1000 and 2000 feet per minute. Aim toward the lower value if all the ducting remains warm in winter, or the higher value if passing through a cold attic. kas

Good Morning, As the kids used to say- "Go Jasmi, Go Jasmi, It's your Birthday"!!!! 'Slim in 6' sounds like a killer that just may work if you can hang with it without getting hurt. I can't wait to break into the 150s. We've moved DH's 76 year old aunt in with us. She has no children, has gotten her finances in a mess, and is getting feeble and forgetful. It is hard on me because she has been alone for quite a while and doesn't want me out of her sight. She walks slowly with a walker and wants to sit and talk all of the time. I've got to carve out time somewhere in the day to get in my treadmill time. I had to go to the grocery store late last night after DH got home, dinner was over, and she had gone to bed. She wants to eat all of the time. YIKES!!! But, she is sweet and has been very good to me in the past. So... life goes on in the wierdest way. My scales said 165 this am. I hope it is true. Come on Ek, get on those scales. It can't be that bad. We still love you! Take my advice and throw that carrot cake away. She is not too dear if she is giving you carrot cake when you are trying to diet. Wish we could get more garden planted. DH tried to plant tomatoes Sat and a storm started before he could finish. Sounds like you have a great one going. Maybe I can get a nice fall garden going this year. We are zone 7 and can extend it into early winter with some protection (according to the books!) I really need more green leafy anything and groceries are REALLY getting expensive. Helen, I love retirement. But, I have been busier than I've ever been since I retired! Last night when I went grocery shopping the sky was lit up continuously with lightening and it started pouring before I could get back home. Crept the last 4-5 miles straining to see through the wall of water. I backed the car right up to the deck steps and carried all of the bags I could get on both arms in at once. The rest stayed in the car overnight. DH brought them in this morning before leaving for work. The driveway has ruts washed in it from the storm. Bummer. Where are you, Harold? If you are talking 6" wide, I don't know that there is one that small. I had some restrictions with my layout because there was a sink and window we weren't moving, so I ended up with a 15" cabinet for a trash pullout. What I didn't think about at the time was this meant even smaller than 15" trash cans...I think my actual trash cans are 11" or 12" wide and deep. But I wanted both trash and recycling, so I think I could have fit a bigger one if I did just one trash can sideways. Sometimes I wish it was a little bigger, but then I like to empty it to the trash cans in the garage often so it doesn't start to smell. So it works fine when you consider that. I thought the size I got might be the smallest trash pullout they make.

I usually try to keep a baby around for the sake of replacement, but many people don't have this problem because for them it throws a lot of seeds and makes babies at the base.
