Silly Little Question - S&P

Here I go overthinking again. I bought a new set of shakers. Very simple. One shaker has one hole and the other has three - do I put the salt in the one hole or three hole? Thanks. Any shaker I had the same amount of holes or the pepper was a grinder.

The salt goes in the three hole and the pepper in the one hole (75% sure). All my salt and pepper shakers that are marked have more holes in the salt and less in the pepper.

Mine are like Shelly's, the salt shaker has more holes.

It's almost certainly the same plant. As long as they have roots, they should transplant OK. You can also take cuttings of the main plant and root them in potting soil, which is what most of us do. Here in the cold damp east our B&B just began sprouting in the past several weeks - maybe you are not as far ahead as I would have guessed. There are very few silly questions, and certainly not your's. I've been gardening all my life it seems, and yet these forums have been very helpful. Everyone has been very kind to me when I've made a query: I suspect that somewhere out there behind the cyber chat are real human beings.

Good health points on why most do better with some salt, though not necessarily that found in most processed foods. Also, as an aside, sorry dianalo, some salt usage has been shown to be beneficial for those prone to depression. Okay, how many holes in your mouse and cheese tops? A quick check on ebay shows only one set labeled, and the cheese has 3 holes marked S and the mouse has 1 hole and is marked P. Following that should satisfy the international butler society. Since yours aren't marked, you can do as you prefer, unless your butler won't let you. If that's the case, just smile sweetly, gladly let him fill the cellars as s/he pleased and handle all the other chores. ;-)

fern4 - I have absolutely no idea. That was about 4 years ago. I can tell you this... we probably bought it at a store like a Target. Was not too expensive, probably made by Hotpoint or some other familiar brand. It worked well considering it was our only cooktop. I really don't know too much else about it. I am just glad to not be using it anymore. For fewer people it would have been fine. Hope that helps.

Liquids can start do dry on the surface and leave residue behind after the cycle is done. I had this happen with softener after using the delay start: there was a ring of softener left in the compartment where it started it dry. A quick rinse got rid of it. The dispensers won't drain out your detergent by themselves. In case someone uses hot water when you want to start the washer, you could delay the start by one hour using the delay start feature. I know you are suppose to put the salt in the one with more holes BUT I always use that one for the pepper; unless the shakers are marked salt and pepper. That way my DH doesn't use so much salt.....LOL

I would also put pepper in the one with more holes!
I don't need the extra salt and LOVE pepper!

Maybe we should all switch our shakers around. Now that I think of it, I keep half the holes covered with tape on my one salt shaker so it doesn't pour too fast, and I don't use the pepper shaker cause I have three grinders. Duh, I guess I should just put the salt in the pepper shaker (they are not marked) and discard the tape!

I also have salt and pepepr shakers taht are marked, the salt shaker has three holes and the pepper shaker only two, so I'd say the salt shaker should have the most holes.

Of course, I use the pepper grinder instead of either of them, LOL, and my salt usually comes from the little salt pig/jelly jar on my table by the pinch! Gardengrl sent me a dozen old fashioned jelly jars she bought on ebay, so old they didn't have the threads for screw on lids, just metal lids that sit on top. They were used back "in the olden days" when everyone used paraffin, but make perfect containers for red hawaiian salt, gray salt and sea salt.

Plus, the red/orange lids match my infamous orange countertops. LOL

Annie, "infamously" orange? Whichever you like more of... gets the more hole shaker. There are no hard and fast rules.

Okay, curiousity got the better of me so I googled this. The one with more holes is the salt one because way back when, pepper was expensive and was to be used sparingly. I figured one hole for the salt for health reasons so I may keep it as is. I bet most guests will use the grinder anyways.

rob, I HATE those orange counters, I've always hated them and I've spouted off here several times about them. They have, indeed, become "infamous". (grin)

Down here, there's orange and there's UT orange. I thought mayabe you had a third distinction. Might ought to learn those nuances quick iffin' your gonna hang out here (I am NOT, by the way, a UT fan. I'm in the very small minority.)

Well, I've been hanging out around here for....oh....six or seven years, LOL, and have never been told the difference between my orange countertops and UT orange.

I googled UT orange and found that the woman's basketball team just got beaten by Nebraska, but there was definitely a picture of the uniform, LOL. And my counters are WAAAY more orange than that.

I use pepper grinders, so I put light salt (half NaCl, half KCL) in the pepper shakers.

Even though marked ones have more holes for salt, my parents always put pepper in the one with more holes because the bigger grains of pepper come out slower per hole than the salt.

On the other hand, we have one set where one shaker has two holes and the other has three, but the two hole one has bigger holes than the 3 hole. If I used that pair I would definitely put the pepper in the one with the bigger holes even if it has fewer holes.

We use grinders for the pepper and our salt shakers came from pepper grinder salt shaker pairs but the grinders died.

and I always thought it was the size of the hole(s) that mattered ... have used Kosher salt (out of a salt hog 'cause it won't shake out of any shaker hole) and a pepper grinder for so long I have forgotten which size is for what.
